In the matter of a month, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have turned from being the ‘it couple’ to ‘that couple’. The estranged couple had what we call a fairytale story, but alas, it did not last long. Merely after four years of marriage, they ‘amicably’ decided to part ways. Since the onset of September 2023, reports on their divorce, prenup agreement, and custody have been doing rounds. And with each passing day, things are getting messier than ever.
For the unversed, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner first connected via Instagram DMs in 2016. They officially announced their relationship in 2017 and got engaged in the same year. Joe and Sophie tied the knot in two different ceremonies in 2019. Then, the duo welcomed their first daughter, Willa, in 2020 and their second daughter, Delphine, in 2022.

On September 18, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were seen having lunch with their two daughters in NYC. However, two days later, Sophie took legal action against Joe, claiming that their kids were being unlawfully held in the U.S. when she wanted to take them to her home country, England. In response, Joe’s representative issued a statement to the media outlet, Us Weekly, stating that Sophie’s lawsuit was an attempt to transfer their divorce proceedings to the UK and permanently relocate their children from the U.S.
According to sources, the relationship between Turner and Jonas started to go downhill approximately a year ago. As per a report by Us Weekly, one source revealed that Sophie was not pleased with Joe’s choice to tour with his siblings, Nick and Kevin. The source said:
“Sophie didn’t want to always be ‘the Jonas brother’s wife’. She didn’t want to go on tour and do everything together. It’s not her personality, and she wanted to keep their family separate from all the Jonas Brothers hoopla.”

As per another source, Sophie struggled to balance her career, taking care of two babies, and managing Jonas' busy schedule. The source revealed that being a mother while travelling is difficult, even with all the necessary resources. The couple found it challenging to establish a consistent routine due to Joe's demanding career. The news outlet, Us Weekly, also stated in their report that a source revealed that Joe used to control Sophie. The source revealed:
“Sophie says Joe was too controlling. She also said Joe liked to flirt a little too much while out in public, but then he wouldn’t like it when she would get too close to her male friends. It was clear their marriage was crumbling.”
Sophie Turner once revealed in an interview that Joe Jonas’ intervention in her life kind of saved her life from further deterioration. She mentioned that the singer insisted that she should learn to love herself first before loving anyone else. Sophie said:
“He was, like, ‘I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself.’ That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.”
Currently, Sophie and Joe are communicating with each other through their respective attorneys. According to a reliable source of Us Weekly, Sophie's top priorities are motherhood, co-parenting her daughters with Joe, and her ongoing work projects. The former couple and their families agree that the kids deserve the best outcome out of this.
