Jimmy Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast, in which she shared details about her relationship with the ABC host. McNearney recalled the exact moment when she realized that Kimmel was interested in her. For the unversed, McNearney worked as a writer on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and reported to him.
The writer was eight years into working at Jimmy Kimmel Live! During a meeting, someone asked everyone to share their five favorite foods. Soon, McNearney listed ‘Pizza and gnocchi, crab claws, BLT and chocolate chip cookies’ as her favorites. Months later, when Jimmy called her over to his house for a meeting, she realized he was into her. Revealing details about the same, she said:
“I go to Jimmy’s house, he asks me to come over after work … and he opens up the door, and it smells delicious, and he’s like, ‘I made some things,’ and it was pizza and gnocchi, crab claws, chocolate chip cookies and BLT.”
As soon as Jimmy named the items he made, she got nervous because she knew what was in his mind. But she was nervous as she said, “Yes! It made me very excited and very nervous. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, no. This is a bad idea.’ He was my boss.” However, when Jimmy revealed that he didn’t have that thought at the time, McNearney clapped back and told him:
“The person in power usually doesn’t, but I was very nervous about it. I thought it was a terrible idea. … I was very skittish. I just kept thinking statistically this is not going to work out and your life isn’t going to change, but mine does. And that’s what freaked me out. Because I had worked really, really hard.”

Molly McNearney is not only Jimmy Kimmel's wife but also an accomplished producer and writer. She has been the executive producer and co-head writer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! She has contributed significantly to the show's success. Apart from the show, she has also worked on large-scale events like the Oscars and the Primetime Emmy Awards.
During the Armchair Expert podcast, McNearney recalled their first meeting and said she met Kimmel a couple of weeks before starting at the show. McNearney revealed that when she was introduced to Kimmel by the executive producer at the time, Kimmel didn’t even bother to look up from his desk. The producer told Kimmel that McNearney did triathlons, to which the comedian replied, “How stupid.”
McNearney revealed that she wasn't at all attracted to Kimmel, but when they started dating, the couple had to keep it a secret before going public with their relationship. The duo got married in 2013 and welcomed two kids, Jane and William.
