The Vance family shares its first portrait with baby Alec Neel
A while ago, JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, took to their official Instagram handle and shared new family photos. In the photo, JD and Usha were seen seated on a beige sofa with their four children in a bright, sunlit room. In fact, JD was cradling the newborn Alec, who was wrapped in a white blanket. On the other hand, Usha sat beside him with their three older children sitting around them.

The couple paired the picture with a simple caption where they expressed their gratitude to supporters for their wishes as they settle in as a family of six. In their words:
"Meet Alec, and enjoy these attempts at taking a decent family photo with four kids!"
The relaxed family picture soon attracted thousands of reactions on the internet. In fact, their supporters congratulated the couple on the new addition to their family. Many also praised the candid nature of the photos that captured the playful moments of the kids.
JD Vance and Usha Vance named their son Alec Neel
JD and Usha Vance recently announced the birth of their fourth child, a son, Alec Neel. The couple confirmed that both the mother and baby were doing well. In turn, they expressed their gratitude towards the doctors and medical staff at Walter Reed Medical Centre and White House Medical Unit for their care.
For those unaware, the duo also share their three older children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. Earlier, President Donald Trump sent his best wishes to the family on Truth Social and shared the first public photos of Alec, who his older siblings lovingly held in the hospital.
The birth of Alec was also an historic moment. According to historical records, Alec is only the second known child to be born to the family of a sitting U.S. Vice President during a vice presidency. Earlier, it happened in 1870 when Vice President Schuyler Colfax welcomed a son while serving in the office.
How did Erika Kirk influence JD Vance and Usha's decision to have a fourth child?
JD Vance had earlier spoken about what inspired him and Usha to expand their family earlier in his 2026 memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. He revealed that they had a conversation with Erika Kirk, the widow of the late conversation commentator Charlie Kirk.

According to JD, Erika shared after Charlie's death that she wished she and her late husband had more children together. The thought resonated with both him and Usha. In turn, it encouraged them to think differently about their own family.
The Vice President wrote that the conversation reminded them that time with your loved ones is precious in turn. They should not take it for granted. As a result, they gave thought to the idea of having a fourth child. They viewed it as a symbol of hope during a difficult period.
On the other hand, JD has often spoken about the significance of family life and raising kids with Usha. Meanwhile, Usha supports young readers through her "Storytime with the Second Lady" program.
We congratulate the Vance Family on the newest addition to their family.
