Morgan rose to fame in the 1950s with hits like That's All I Want From You and The Longest Walk, becoming one of the top female vocalists of the decade.
She later became a TV regular on The Tonight Show and, famously, as a panelist on The Gong Show from 1976, known for her witty and unpredictable presence. Jaye P. Morgan and Artie Kane tied the knot in 1960. The pair later adopted a son named Paul Steven Kane. However, the marriage did not last for more than six years, leading to their divorce in 1966. Artie Kane, born Aaron Cohen on April 14, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, was a child prodigy who started piano when he was three and a half years old.
He studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and later in New York, quickly winning competitions against older musicians and performing on early radio. He began his professional career in New York as a pianist, arranger, and conductor for club acts and recording sessions. It was there he met Jaye P. Morgan, conducting for her live shows. The duo moved to Los Angeles after they got married.
In Hollywood, Artie Kane became one of the most in-demand studio pianists from 1960 to 1978. He worked with legends like Frank Sinatra, playing Hammond organ on Sinatra's Grammy-winning album Strangers in the Night and appearing on his TV special A Man and His Music - Part II. He even collaborated with Jerry Goldsmith on films like Planet of the Apes, The Thomas Crown Affair, and Ice Station Zebra.
He transitioned into composing for television, scoring over 250 shows including Wonder Woman, Vegas, The Love Boat, Hotel, Dynasty, Matlock, Lou Grant, A Question of Guilt, and Man Against the Mob. He even composed for movies like The Bat People, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Eyes of Laura Mars, Night of the Juggler, and Wrong Is Right.
In 1975, he earned a Grammy nomination with Ralph Grierson for their two-piano Gershwin album S' Wonderful on Angel Records. He detailed his 50-year career in his memoir Music to My Years: Love and Life Between the Notes. Kane died on June 21, 2022, at the age of 93, on Whidbey Island, Washington.

These included her signature Top 10 singles, such as That's All I Want From You and The Longest Walk, plus Pepper-Hot Baby, Danger! Heartbreak Ahead, and duets with Perry Como.
Named Best Female Vocalist by DownBeat and Cash Box in 1954, she headlined her own 1956 variety show, The Jaye P. Morgan Show, and was a regular on Stop the Music and The Robert Q. Lewis Show. She was best known to a later generation as a witty, unpredictable panelist on Chuck Barris' The Gong Show. Jaye P. Morgan became a popular face on TV with her appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, General Electric Theatre, The Odd Couple, and Love Boat.
