Jamie Lynn Spears Says Maddie's Near-Fatal Accident Led Her To Have Another Child, 'God, Take My..'

The Zoey 101 actress has recently shared about the toughest decision she has had to make in her entire existence. Jamie Lynn Spears and her daughter, Maddie, reflected on the hardest chapter of their lives in a recent interview. The duo recalled the near-fatal ATV accident that almost claimed Maddie's life in 2017.

In a conversation with PEOPLE, Jamie Lynn Spears and her daughter, Maddie, reflected on one of the darkest chapters of their lives. She recalled how she almost lost her daughter. She revealed that when Maddie was 8 years old, she was riding an ATV. However, things took an unfortunate turn when she made a sharp turn, which left her trapped underwater in the pond on their property in Fluker. She was quoted as saying: 

"That was the day I thought I'd lost my daughter. Against all odds, this baby girl fought to be here. We were watching her, and we still don't quite know whether she was dodging a dog or something else. She went in the water, and my father-in-law, my husband [Jamie Watson], and I ran as fast as we could to jump in to get her out, but she was stuck under the ATV."

The accident left Maddie in a coma

Jamie Lynn Spears further recalled running towards the pond while her mother-in-law called 911. The Sweet Magnolias actress revealed that an ambulance had arrived at their residence within minutes. However, the horror was nowhere near over. Jamie recalled that when Maddie was pulled out of the water, "it was really not a sight anybody wants to see." The Crossroads actress' daughter "was not breathing", leading the family to think she had passed. Nonetheless, that's when Jamie heard the firefighter say they "got a pulse," and Maddie was airlifted to a hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best medical attention, Maddie ended up in a coma.

Jamie Lynn Spears called a priest to read Maddie her last rites

Maddie was in a coma for two days, and the medical assessment was not in her favour. This led Jamie to call a priest to administer her last rites. However, things took a surprising turn after that. While Maddie doesn't remember the accident, she says, "I feel like our faith got a lot stronger." Jamie recalled the events following the priest's arrival and said:

"He comes in, and she physically sits up in all her restraints and tubes. I'm screaming for the doctors, like ‘Come in here now!' Even the priest was like, 'I've never seen anything like what's happening.' I knew she was in there and felt all of us praying. We were given a miracle, and I don't take it for granted."

Maddie had been "begging" Jamie Lynn Spears for a sibling before the accident

In the same conversation, Jamie revealed that her daughter, Maddie, had been "begging me for a little sibling" before the tragedy. So, while Maddie was in a coma, Jamie found herself "bargaining with God, like, 'Take my arm, take my leg. I don't care. Just give me my baby back.'" She even agreed to have a baby, and when Maddie came out of her coma, she asked Jamie, "You going to give me that baby?" A few months later, Jamie got pregnant with her second daughter, Ivey, whom she and her husband, Jamie Watson, welcomed in 2018. 

Eventually, instead of looking at it as a dark chapter, the family found a silver lining in what happened. "We always say she went up to heaven to go pick out her little sister," Jamie says. "Ivey's like, 'So you did all of that to find me?'" Maddie recalled she made a full recovery and "seeing everybody rally around me, it made me realise how blessed I am."
