James Handy's Death, Medical Examiner Reveals New Details After GF's Son 'Attacked Him With Knife'

Top Gun: Maverick actor, James Handy’s death this month, has left everyone in a state of shock. According to reports, it was James' girlfriend's son, Michael Gledhill, who stabbed him to death with a knife. Later, the authorities arrested Michael for the brutal murder of the actor, and his mother, Wendy Gledhill, also expressed her disappointment towards her own son. While it has already been a few days since James Handy's tragic demise, new details in his death have been revealed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner. 

News details emerge in James Handy's death 

James Handy was reportedly attacked outside his home in Tarzana, California, by his girlfriend's son, Michael Gledhill, on June 3, 2026. When the police arrived on the scene, they found the veteran actor with several stab wounds and rushed him to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, even after the doctor's best efforts, James Handy was ultimately pronounced dead at the age of 81. 

Now, according to a report by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, James Handy's death was the result of a stab wound to his torso. Another added factor that was revealed is “neck compression.” For those unaware, neck compressions tend to occur due to age-related wear and tear in the nerves of the neck, especially when they are squeezed or put under abnormal pressure, as per the National Institutes of Health.

Following James Handy's death, his girlfriend, Wendy Gledhill, recalled his final moments in a recent interview. She revealed that at the time, it seemed like a normal day when James went to pick up the newspaper. However, according to her, while she didn't see the Jumanji actor getting killed, she believes that her son was already standing outside their house, and that's when Michael stabbed him. Wendy was quoted as saying:

“James had gotten up to get the newspaper at about 9 o'clock, but he didn't make the coffee like he usually does. I just heard the door open because he was getting the paper. I can only assume my son was already put there, and they started to argue, from my understanding, in the front yard.” 

Wendy Gledhill confessed that she only got to know about what happened to James when the police came calling at her doorstep after thirty minutes. Reportedly, she “didn't know what was going on” at the time. Wendy recalled that the cops had instructed her to stay away from the main door of the house, and there could still be something dangerous. She shared:

“The first time I heard something happening was when the police showed up. They said someone had called 911, and they told me someone was wrapped in a blanket outside the house.”

During the same interview, Wendy also spoke out about her son, Michael and claimed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia for which he had to take medicines. However, Wendy believed that on the day of the tragic incident, Michael might have skipped his medicines. It is worth noting that when James' neighbours were approached for an interview, they revealed that Michael seemed like he was suffering from delusions. Additionally, they also claimed to have overheard James and Michael arguing the night before the latter killed him. 

Michael Gledhill confessed that he “killed the man of sin”

According to reports, Michael Gledhill was 44 years old at the time of the tragic incident. A news release by the LAPD stated that when the police arrived on the scene, he told them that “he was the one who was looking for.” Not only that, but Michael was also the one who initially called 911 to report the stabbing in a disturbing statement:

“I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
