During this period, she met Roger Davis. They started dating, and Roger popped the question to Jaclyn in 1968. They tied the knot in the same year. However, the marriage did not work as expected, following which they started meeting counsellors. The efforts failed, leading to their divorce in 1975. Three years later, Jaclyn recalled her marriage to Roger in an interview with PEOPLE and said:

“I was such an innocent. I was too much living for him, and I lost sight of myself.”

The duo kept everything a secret with different methods, including booking the reception party with false identities at Tavern On The Green in Central Park, Manhattan.

But the marriage did not last for more than two years, leading to their separation in 1981. Jaclyn Smith claimed in an interview with PEOPLE that since she and Dennis were active in the same field, they had a lot of competition with each other, which also brought problems in their marriage. Jaclyn said that she tried everything and continued:

“All the publicity contributed to the breakup. I guess a man doesn’t want competition, and I understand that. I’m not one of those big women’s libbers. I understood Dennis wanted to be the head of the house, and the papers were calling him ‘Mr. Jaclyn Smith.’”

In 1982, the pair welcomed their first child, Gaston Anthony, followed by a daughter, Spencer Margaret, in 1985.
