South Korea's much-loved couple, IU and Lee Jong-Suk, have ended their relationship, as confirmed by their agencies. IU and Lee Jong-Suk confirmed being in a relationship back in 2022, and most recently, speculations have been rife that the couple has broken up. After a lot of speculation out there, the duo's agencies confirmed the news quickly.

While they have decided to end their romantic relationship, they will continue to be friends, as shared by the couple's agencies. The news came as a shock to IU and Lee Jong Suk's fans, who used to be in awe of the duo's mushy bond.

Why did IU and Lee Jong-Suk break up?

As the recently confirmed information hit the headlines, the South Korean couple's fans have been wondering what could be the possible reason for their breakup. The reason hasn't been confirmed; however, there have been some speculations around. Confirming that the singer-actress IU brokeup, her agency EDAM Entertainment said in a statement that the duo will remain good friends and colleagues, while Lee Jong Suk's agency also confirmed the same and requested privacy. ACE FACTORY (Jong Suk's agency), in a statement, revealed:

"It is true that Lee Jong-seok has broken up with IU. As this concerns the actor's personal life, we regret that we cannot provide additional answers and kindly ask for your understanding."

The reason for IU and Lee Jong-Suk's breakup hasn't been revealed; however, it was a while back when Korean entertainment outlet Dispatch revealed the alleged reason for the duo's breakup. According to the same publication, the duo's close friends have revealed that the reason for the couple's breakup was their busy schedules.

Their alleged close friends shared that the couple was not getting enough time to be with each other, and they eventually decided to end their relationship. Soon after, this buzz was rife, and the confirmation followed. To mention, no official reason for the couple's breakup was given, and the mentioned reason is unverified. The duo's close source allegedly shared:

"It's due to their busy schedules. Their meetings have decreased, and they decided to end their relationship."

IU and Lee Jong-Suk's relationship

While IU (Lee Ji-eun) and Jong-Suk had dated for four years, they met a long time back in 2011. Both of them entered the entertainment industry when they were 15 years old. IU and Jong-Suk continued to establish themselves as the best in their respective fields, music and movies. Well, they crossed paths in 2011, when Jong-Suk was in his mid-20s. This was confirmed by the actor himself in his January 2023 fan cafe letter. The duo was featured as MCs on SBS’ weekly music show, Inkigayo, which they also hosted from August to September that year.

According to Jong-Suk, even then, what he felt for IU was more than love. They started as friends, and by the end of their MCing journey, they became closest of friends in 2012. Even though they had a few arguments about costumes during the show, they sorted things out after the show was over and kept supporting each other through the years. In 2022, rumours about their dating started circulating after Jong-Suk openly admitted his liking for 'someone' during one of his acceptance speeches.

Soon, in December 2022, Dispatch reported that the couple had been dating for four months. Following this, the duo's agencies confirmed the same report. Throughout the last four years, the duo had showered each other with love and support. In 2024, speculations were rife that they broke up; however, they proved them all wrong. The couple's split buzz again went viral in 2025 through Chinese social media platform Weibo. However, their fans shared proof of the duo being together. However, it was on July 10, 2026, that their breakup was officially confirmed.
