Kayla Noel Day's name came under fresh public scrutiny after cops arrested her in the late hours of Friday, February 12, 2026, shortly after a grey Range Rover was seized during a late-night law enforcement operation near a Culver's restaurant parking lot in Tucson, Arizona. Initial records mention that Kayla was arrested that same night, followed by Luke Daley's detention during a SWAT operation the next day. Both these names are being linked to the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of popular anchor and Today Show co-host, Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing since February 1, 2026.

17 days into the search with no sign of Nancy Guthrie, online speculation has intensified, with some questioning whether a family member, close associate, or someone seeking to target Savannah Guthrie could be involved. Since Kayla Day's arrest, online users have claimed that she is Luke's girlfriend and associate, and both of them may have been connected to a 2025 drug trafficking ring. Some viral posts on X (formerly Twitter) allege she was arrested 14 times between 2011 and 2025. However, there has been no official confirmation about Kalya's relationship with Luke or her arrest records.

Is Kayla Day a niece of Nancy Guthrie?

Some even more explosive claims have surfaced regarding Kayla's alleged family ties with Nancy Guthrie. Several users on X and Reddit now claim that Kayla is Nancy’s niece and supposedly the daughter of a woman named Penny Guthrie, an alleged sister of the 84-year-old. A social media commentator known as JLR posted a YouTube video featuring a man who claimed to know the Guthrie family. According to that source, Kalya Noel Day is the daughter of Nancy's "sister", Penny, which makes her a cousin of Savannah Guthrie. The source also alleged that Penny Guthrie's maiden name may have been Day. 

However, some other social media users have contradicted this version, with some claiming that Penny is actually related to Savannah Guthrie's late father, Charles Guthrie. It's essential to note, however, that none of these familial claims has been verified officially. Additionally, there has been no official confirmation that either Nancy’s or Charles’ family includes a relative named Penny.

Kayla Day's alleged social media profiles surface

Internet sleuths have tracked down the alleged social media handles of Kayla Noel Day, which suggest that she is a tattoo and piercing artist based in Arizona. Her alleged Facebook and TikTok profiles (now deleted) show her with piercings on her face and multiple tattoos on her body. With these new images, users are now questioning whether Kayla could indeed be connected with the masked perpetrator captured on Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera. A close-up shot of the individual showed what looked like a wrist tattoo peaking through the intruder's jacket sleeves.

The new information also raised questions about the gloves that the suspect wore that night, with some users mentioning that such black gloves are  "very much used by tattoo piercing artists." Another X user pointed at a TikTok video posted by Kayla, where she allegedly mentioned that one of her favourite love stories features natural-born killers. The user wrote:

"This is interesting.. one of her fave love stories is natural born killers. Main character is Mickey Knox her FB shows she married MICK Knox in 2024. They live in Arivaca AZ. Kinda odd she idolized a movie about serial killer couple no?"

None of these claims has been verified by the Pima County Sheriff's Department or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Authorities have repeatedly advised not to read too much into conspiracy theories, as such things are quite common in high-profile cases like the Nancy Guthrie investigation.

Where are Kayla Day and her alleged boyfriend, Luke Daley, now?

Hours after Kayla Day's arrest, Luke Anthony Daley was taken in after a SWAT operation at his residence in the 6200 block of North Placita de Rojelio in Tucson. Following the arrests, unverified reports and online discussions have linked Luke and Kayla to a 2025 indictment involving drug trafficking and fentanyl-related charges. However, these claims also remain unsubstantiated for now.

According to the latest updates, Kayla Day and her alleged boyfriend, Luke Daley, have remained in police custody since their detention last week. However, there has not yet been any official confirmation of whether the charges against them are linked to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. For now, they remain in the Pima County jail. 

Latest updates on Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping investigation

The DNA test results from a glove found two miles from Nancy Guthrie's Catalina Foothills home are in, and they don't match any of the recorded DNA profiles at Pima County. It produced no matches in CODIS, the FBI's database of DNA from known offenders. The officials reportedly collected about 16 gloves from various locations near Nancy Guthrie's home, although most turned out to have been discarded by people searching for her.

So far, law enforcement has fielded more than 30,000 tips surrounding Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping. For now, officials are urging the public to rely on verified updates, not viral theories. There is no confirmed evidence linking any cartel, cross-border group, or foreign body to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. Meanwhile, the Guthrie siblings, along with Savannah's husband, Michael Feldman, and Annie's husband, Tommaso Cioni, have been cleared of being labelled suspects in the case.
