Hacks, the Emmy award-winning show, is returning with a bang. Yes, you read it right. The comedy series starring Jean Smart as 'Deborah Vance' and Hannah Einbinder as 'Ava Daniels,' has been a critical hit. Over the years, the HBO Max series has won 12 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2024. According to multiple reports, the HBO Max hit series is now gearing up for its Season 5 finale. Continue reading to know whether the series has something in store for Season 6.
Hacks Season 5 consists of ten episodes. Season 5 is all about 'Deborah Vance' reinventing herself and rewriting her stained legacy. She is a legendary stand-up comedian. She is being blamed for the failure of the late-night show. Speaking about the following, co-showrunner and star, Paul W. Downs, told Deadline:
"A lot of our Season 5 is going to be about her sort of reinventing herself and rewriting her legacy after she’s been blamed for the death of late-night."

As of now, the creators and HBO Max have no plans for Season 6. 'Deborah' will be returning one last time tonight with the Season 5 finale. Despite winning multiple accolades, the creators decided to end it in a strong and meaningful way. During an interview with The Wrap, Paul W. Downs explained that he wanted to end the show on a high note and didn’t want it to feel dragged. Downs expressed his gratitude to viewers for loving the show, as most shows do not always get the chance to end exactly the way it was planned. He was quoted as saying:
"We wanted to go out with a bang. We really wanted to make this a complete circle, and getting the chance to do that is really rare. So we were very excited, and we feel very honoured that we were able to tell the story the way we set out to do it."

Hacks was created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky. The trio had always envisioned Hacks as a five-season story. According to a report by The New York Times, when the trio pitched the show to HBO in 2019, they even described the final scene. Elaborating on the following, Lucia told Deadline, "Like, 'It's five seasons, this is what the last scene is.' It is still the same, so for us, it's something we've been building toward for a long time. So I really do hope people find the end of the season as satisfying as we do."

It is worth noting that although some of the minor plots have changed throughout the series' run, the overall story arc has not. Explaining the same, Paul told People that for 'Jimmy' and 'Kayla', a lot of things changed. Paul added how the central character, 'Deborah Vance,' was developed. He was quoted as saying:

"Actually, a lot of things changed for Jimmy and Kayla — a lot of things changed. A lot of things changed in terms of the order and certain characters in the ensemble, but what happens with Deborah Vance, we pitched, oh my God, seven years ago. It's something that we pitched when we pitched the series. And the fact that we were able to do it is the proudest I've been about the show."
