Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan is in the news again, not for his cricket skills but because of his wife. Being a celebrity, be it an actor or cricketer, is not a cakewalk. It comes with a lot of flaks and backlashes. In the era of social media, people don’t shy away from posting their opinions and targeting celebrities. Irfan broke a million of hearts when he said qubool hai to a Jeddah-based model, Safa Baig on February 4, 2016. On March 8, 2016, the newly-wedded couple hosted a star-studded wedding reception. Irfan and Safa are now blessed with a baby boy, whom they named, Imran. On August 6, 2018, Irfan posted a picture with Safa where the couple can be seen enjoying at the valley. He captioned the following snap, “You are my friend today, forever and I love you #friendship #kashmir”.
Soon, comments started pouring in as to why Irfan posted a picture in which Safa is not showing her face. The trolls targeted the religious sentiments, and some users accused him for being a celebrity and following such customs where a woman cannot show her face, living in the 21st century. One of the Insta users wrote, “hay bhagwan woh log itne bade celebrity hoke aise baaton ko support kaise karte hain.”, another one said, “brother you are living in 21st century too you should have courage to accept them if you are so called "broadminded" .. and you know there re restrictions for both men and women... but since they are same at some point or differ at other..so with the restrictions...”.
But some came in their support too and wrote, “Aisa Kuch bhi nahi h... Sabki apni Marji hai.... Koi shots pehenti hai to bolte ho besharam aur Koi apni haya ko cover Kare to bechari.....waah! trollers!!!”, another one commented, “jo selfies banati hain unse bhi problem, jo musical.ly banati hain unse bhi problem, ab is ladki se bhi problem hai inko.. are chahte kya ho bhai log?!”. Irfan too shared another post as an epic reply to all the haters and trolls. He posted a picture of him, with Safa covering his face, and he captioned it, “Wo jab dusro pe ungliya uthate hue apni zaat ho vali samajte the... unhe Kya pata tha mere or khuda ke rishte ka #Love #respect #placeforeveryone #lookinthemirror”. After his wedding with Safa, Ifran was quoted as saying, "Miya-biwi ka rishta bahut hi khoobsurat hota hai and it feels fantastic to start this new innings of my life. Uparwale ka bada ehsaan hai and I, Safa and all our family members are very happy today. I am also thankful that my friends, cricketers with whom I have played, seniors and well-wishers from outside the cricket fraternity and even abroad have come to my hometown to bless us on this day. I couldn't have asked for more and with all their blessings, I am sure that we will have a great journey ahead." In July 2017, Irfan was trolled for not being a true Muslim and tweeting an ‘un-Islamic’ picture of his wife, Safa. Some even targeted Safa for flaunting her nail paint, saying that Allah won’t accept their namaz. The comments on his post were like, “WTF. Tell her cover her arms. Being a muslim and being a Pathan its your duty to do so”, “Hiding face is not Farz…But hiding arms is farz Irfan bhai... She’is hiding her face its good, may Allah bless her… But tell her to hide her arms too...”, “Mashaa allah, esi baat nahi h ki islaam aap par laagu hota h, but aapaki chhavi ek sachche musalman ki h so pleaase bhabhi ko parde me rakho.”, “Bhai nice picture. But please don’t update Wife or any of our Muslim girls pictures. I really highly respect your family coz you got so nice family, your family example for others, I got one humble request to you please don’t update muslimas pictures, our girls are very special.
