Christopher Nolan’s film, Oppenheimer, is based on the life of the American scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, 'the father of the atomic bomb'. The film centres around the life of the scientist and his contribution to developing bombs, ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Fat Man’, that wreak havoc in Japan during World War II. The biography, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, which won the Pulitzer Prize, served as an inspiration for the film.

The film will explore the factors that led to the creation of the first nuclear weapon, the circumstances surrounding the Manhattan Project's launch during World War II, and the ups and downs in the life of American physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, popularly known as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, for his significant contribution to the Project.
The movie's trailer showed how America competed with the Nazis to develop the world's first nuclear bomb. 'Are we admitting there's a chance the world may end if we press that button?' Matt Damon's character says at one point in the teaser. And Cillian Murphy, who is portraying 'Oppenheimer', responds, 'Chances are close to zero.'
If you're unsure about the plot of Oppenheimer, the impressive cast may pique your interest. The movie centres around J. Robert Oppenheimer, the renowned scientist who led the Manhattan Project during World War II. Cillian Murphy plays the titular role in the film.
While Matt Damon plays 'Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves', who oversaw the Pentagon's construction and the Manhattan Project, Emily Blunt plays Oppenheimer's wife, 'Kitty'. 'Lewis Strauss', played by Robert Downey Jr., served two terms on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. The running time of Oppenheimer exceeds that of Interstellar by over 10 minutes, clocking in at more than three hours. In an interview with Total Film magazine, Christopher mentioned that the film was only slightly longer than his previous record for length.
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan said in an interview with Associated Press that Oppenheimer contains no computer-generated images. The film was also shot in IMAX, which uses high-resolution cameras and film types to provide a world-class watching experience. Talking about the same, he said:
"The sharpness and the clarity and the depth of the image is unparalleled. The headline, for me, is by shooting on IMAX 70mm film, you’re really letting the screen disappear. You’re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses. You’ve got a huge screen, and you’re filling the peripheral vision of the audience. You’re immersing them in the world of the film."
Parts of Oppenheimer are made in colour and black and white to highlight two distinct timelines and viewpoints. In an interview with the Associated Press, Christopher said:
"I knew that I had two timelines that we were running in the film. One is in colour, and that's Oppenheimer's subjective experience. That's the bulk of the film. Then the other is a black-and-white timeline. It's a more objective view of his story from a different character's point of view."

According to Christopher, even the most difficult parts in the movie were produced with only a small amount of CGI. Without using CGI, he even achieved the scene of a nuclear explosion. He said:
"I think recreating the Trinity test (the first nuclear weapon detonation in New Mexico) without the use of computer graphics was a huge challenge to take on."
Christopher claimed that he could communicate the visual aspects of quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test by bringing his visual effects supervisor on board early. He added that the crew shot in New Mexico in unusually bad weather since it was necessary for the movie.
The release of Barbie, another star-studded film, is scheduled for the same day, July 21, 2023, as Oppenheimer. The continuous discussion on various social media platforms regarding which of the two films would perform better at the box office has helped Christopher's movie promotion. Some supporters want to see Oppenheimer win this unofficial battle.
On the other hand, Barbie is a fantasy comedy film based on the American toy manufacturer Mattel's 'Barbie' fashion dolls. After being kicked out of ‘Barbie Land’ for being less-than-perfect dolls, ‘Barbie’ and her beau, ‘Ken’, set out to see the real world. In addition to having a stellar cast, Barbie stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie in key roles.
Christopher Nolan’s movie, Oppenheimer, will be the first film since Memento (2000) to be distributed by a studio other than Warner Brothers. In September 2021, Universal was picked as the film's distributor after Christopher’s dispute with Warner Bros.
The excitement for the release of Oppenheimer is at an all-time high! After all, it is a Christopher Nolan movie. According to reports, around two lakh tickets of Oppenheimer have been sold only in PVR and IMAX. Numerous theatre chains have added 3 am show times in response to the tremendous demand for the movie. Avatar: The Way Of Water and other Marvel films have inspired similar enthusiasm in India.
Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie, is anticipated to be one of the most awaited releases of the year. Before Oppenheimer's premiere, PVR reportedly re-released some of Christopher's most popular films in theatres. The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk are among them.
