In a recent interview, Imran opened up about how he introduced his girlfriend, Lekha, to his 12-year-old daughter, Imara.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Imran Khan shared that he and Lekha Washington knew each other before they began dating. Thus, his 12-year-old daughter, Imara, also knew Lekha. However, when they began dating, Imran wanted to make things clear with his daughter, Imara. He explained that hiding something from a child is totally unhealthy. He was quoted as saying:

"Lekha and I knew each other before we started dating, and so Imara knew her too. It’s just the context of the relationship that changed and I wanted her to know when it happened. It’s part of being transparent. Trying to conceal anything from a child is unhealthy. That’s not how you build a healthy relationship. Kids do what you do and not what you say. So I want to live my life in a way where I’m setting a healthy example for her. It’s important to speak to kids like they are rational, thinking beings and not treat them as lesser."

Further in the interview, Imran got candid about his current bonding with his daughter, Imara. He shared that presently his daughter thinks that he is a bit uncool in front of her friends. He mentioned that fatherhood changed him a lot. Imran explained that when he and his daughter, Imara, watch cartoons, he identified that women are represented in a stereotypical way and thus he is seeking a positive female representation in his films as well. He was quoted as saying:

"We’ve reached a phase where I’m uncool in front of her friends; I still shout out ‘I love you’, but I’m not cool enough to hang out with her friends. I have started viewing the world through her lens. When I watch cartoons or movies with her, I realise that I do not like how female characters are being represented. Misogyny is reinforced. It nudged me to start seeking out positive female representation in my films as well."

Earlier, in January 2026, Imran sat for a candid conversation with NDTV. During the conversation, Imran opened up about finding love again with Lekha and shared that it has been a beautiful experience. He described this new chapter of his life as "empowering, uplifting, and a two-way thing." Imran explained that when a person is being loved by someone truly, it gives them strength and also heals them. The Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na star added that he found selfless love between his daughter, Imara and his partner, Lekha. In his words:

"To be loved by someone truly gives you strength and heals you. To give love truthfully and selflessly to another also is empowering and healing. And I have found this, in between my daughter and my partner Lekha, to give and to receive love. It has been absolutely crucial to my healing and to my own growth and well-being."
