Stanley Bertman bid farewell to the world after a brief hospitalization for heart issues. Some LSU officials confirmed that he died peacefully at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He reportedly took his last breath at 1:12 a.m surrounded by his loved ones.
In fact, during his last days, Stanley was visited by his close friends, former players, and members of the LSU community. They came to share old stories and memories with Stanley from their days together. Moreover, former LSU and Major League Baseball star Ben McDonald was also among those who visited Stanley during his last days. He shared that he visited Stanley to personally express his gratitude to the coach for everything he did for him and others during his illustrious career.
Meanwhile, former players, coaches, and fans sent their condolences to Stanley's family. They also shared their gratitude for the former LSU coach who changed the direction of their lives with his leadership.
For those unaware, Stanley died just a few months after his wife, Sandy. She passed away in March 2025 after nearly 63 years of marriage to the legendary coach. Therefore, they were admired for having one of the most enduring relationships in baseball. At the same time, Stanley's family also mentioned how he made an impactful role in college athletics during his tenure as a coach.
The former LSU coach is now survived by his three daughters. They are Jan, Jodi, and Lori. In fact, he also has many grandchildren. Some of them stayed by his side during his final moments to support Stanley in his final hours.

Stanley Bertman spent his final days relieving his personal moments with his loved ones. However, his professional success is one of the most important legacies in the history of college sports.
When Stanley Bertman first came to LSU in 1983, the baseball program's conditions were not good. They lack resources, modern facilities, and a national stature. But it did not stop him from working hard. Soon, he turned the Tigers into one of the strongest teams that dominated the sport for more than two decades.
He stood by the team for 18 seasons as head coach, during which he led LSU to five College World Series Championships. It was in 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 2000. In fact, his teams reached the College World Series 11 times. Eventually, they made one of the best post-season records in NCAA baseball history.
Apart from these tournaments, Stanley also made baseball popular in the broader South. Therefore, countless young athletes who attended his summer camps went on to make careers in professional baseball. Later, the legendary coach retired in 2001 and instead took up the role of athletic director until 2008. Again, the university won many national trophies in multiple sports under his reign.
