Hilary Duff is one of the most beloved American actresses and singers we grew up with. Beginning her career at a really young age, she gained widespread fame after appearing as the fan-favourite character, ‘Lizzie McGuire', in the Disney Channel comedy series of the same name. She also starred in the 2003 film based on the series, titled The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Some of her most notable works over the years include Kadet Kelly (2002), Agent Cody Banks (2003), A Cinderella Story (2004), Younger (2015-2021), and How I Met Your Father (2022-2023). Alongside her acting career, Hilary Duff has also made some significant contributions in the music department.

It was in 2002 that she released her debut studio album, Santa Claus Lane. Following this, Hilary has dropped five more albums, namely Metamorphosis (2003), Hilary Duff (2004), Dignity (2007), Breathe In. Breathe Out. (2015), and lastly, luck... or something (2026). Currently, Hilary is grabbing the headlines for the ongoing Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour, which kicked off on the night of January 19, 2026. What made it even more special is that it is the former Disney star's first live performance in over a decade. Hilary Duff found young love with Aaron Carter  

According to People, Hilary Duff and Aaron Carter were only 13 years old when they started dating in the early 2000s. Soon, they became one of the most talked-about teen couples in Hollywood at the time. However, what many people might not be aware of is that they had a rather on-and-off relationship, with Aaron even confessing to the fact that he dated actress, Lindsay Lohan during their off periods. This ultimately became a cause of tension between Hilary and Lindsay.

After admittedly cheating on Hilary a second time, the duo called it quits in 2003. Later, Aaron expressed his regrets about how things ended between him and Hilary. In 2022, after Aaron's passing, the Disney star took to her Instagram to pen a tribute for her ex. She captioned the post: 

"I'm deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world. You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent…boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time."  

Hilary Duff was rumoured to be dating her then-co-star, Frankie Muniz 

In the early 2000s, Hilary Duff and Frankie Muniz started off as close friends before they started dating. According to reports, their friendship began on the set of Hilary's show, Lizzie McGuire, when Frankie guest-starred on it alongside her. Sadly, by the time they began production for their 2003 film, Cody Banks, the romance between the two started to fade.

However, if reports are to be believed, Frankie looked back at his and Hilary's time together by tweeting a throwback photo of the two in 2016. Captioning the photo, where they can be seen sitting atop a motorcycle, Frankie wrote, “This car took me on my first date, picking up @HilaryDuff. I'm assuming that it looked something like this photo! Yes!!!”  

Hilary Duff dated Joel Madden as a teenager  

Hilary Duff's relationship with Good Charlotte singer, Joel Madden, was one of those celebrity romances that were constantly in the headlines. The main reason for this is that when the pair started dating, Hilary was only 16 years old while Joe was 9 years her senior. During a 2005 interview with The View, Hilary even reportedly confessed to the fact that she deliberately tried to keep their relationship a secret because of their significant age gap.

After dating for a few years, according to a report by ET, the duo split up in 2006 when Hilary was 19 years of age. One year later, Hilary spilt to Ellen DeGeneres that some of the songs from her music album, Dignity, were inspired by her breakup with Joel Madden. According to aPage Six report from February 2022, Hilary and Joel still seem to be on friendly terms as they were spotted out on dinner together with their current spouses in Los Angeles.

Hilary Duff was previously married to NHL star, Mike Comrie 

One of the most notable relationships in Hilary Duff's life is with NHL player, Mike Comrie, whom she began dating in 2007. After dating for a few years, Hilary and Mike decided to take their relationship to the next step, getting engaged in February 2010 and tying the knot on August 14 of the same year. Two years after their marital bliss, the former couple welcomed their son, Luca Cruz Comrie, on March 20, 2012.

Unfortunately, by 2014, their years of marriage came to a halt when they announced that they were separating, albeit amicably. In fact, Hilary and Mike were even on the same page about co-parenting their one and only son. Finally, the actress filed for divorce in February 2015, citing irreconcilable differences, which was finalised a year later, in February 2016. At the time, Hilary opened up about the reason for her divorce during a conversation with Cosmopolitan. She said: 

"It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I don't want to sound bitter because I'm definitely not, but I don't know if people are meant to be together forever."
