Hazel Crowney, who entered Bollywood by chance in 2004, became a well-known face in the industry with MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar in 2007. She played the role of 'Ayesha'. She appeared in several commercials, including Pond's, Nokia, Samsung, and HSBC. However, by the time 2010 arrived, Hazel's name began to disappear from Bollywood.
Today, Hazel Crowney runs an Instagram page called "phosforescence" and shares all things mystical. According to her webpage, she is a wellness coach, artist, and Airbnb host who focuses on inspiring growth and creativity. She has almost 12K followers on Instagram and shares videos and pictures related to being a yogini, while also giving the world a tour of her Airbnbs.
Apart from wellness, Hazel also practices different forms of art. She often shares her artwork on social media. However, it's mainly focused on mandala art. While Hazel Crowney backed away from Bollywood, her page still holds images and videos from her time in the industry.
Why did Hazel Crowney leave Bollywood?
For those who don't know, Hazel Crowney was born in London to English parents, Karin and Phil Crowney. She has two younger sisters, Robyn and Zoe. While she grew up in the United Kingdom, attending Bennett Memorial School and West Kent College, she landed her first Bollywood gig by complete accident. Yes! Hazel was backpacking through Thailand when she stumbled upon an Indian film being shot.
She agreed to work in the film and became a part of the item song, Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar, marking her Bollywood debut. She then joined Janasheen as an extra, and soon found herself in Mumbai wanting to give showbiz a proper run. She rose to prominence with her role in MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar and worked in projects like Ho Sakta Hai, U, Me aur Hum, Kick, Mittal v/s Mittal, Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyon, A Flat, Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal, and Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara!
She was paid immensely well for her roles. However, things changed in 2010, when reports went rife that she was being asked to leave Bollywood. According to reports, there was political pressure on her and 1000 other foreign actors who often appeared in Bollywood projects to be let go. A campaign was launched claiming that the foreigners were stealing jobs from the locals, and Hazel Crowney was pressurised to step back as well.
However, despite the ban, Hazel didn't give up; she appeared in Kaanchi: The Unbreakable, Shankara, and Aadesh - Power of Law. Hazel Crowney performed in an item song named Reshma Ki Jawani for the film Kaash Tum Hote, which was released in 2014. She also appeared in an item song in the Telugu action-drama Shankara, which was released in 2016. Nonetheless, her final project came in 2019 with Ghost.
