Harry Potter Star, Brendan Gleeson Says He Doesn't Have Advice For Next 'Mad-Eye Moody,' 'Do Your..'

Fans are eagerly waiting to see more of the Harry Potter franchise and its beloved characters. And, it seems that Brendan Gleeson, who played the role of ‘Alaster “Mad-Eye” Moody' in the original films, is also waiting for the same. During a recent interview, Brendan opened up about whether he has any advice for the person who will take on the role of ‘Mad-Eye.’

Brendan Gleeson on what he wants the next person who plays ‘Mad-Eye’ to do 

On May 13, 2026, during the New York premiere of the series, Spider-Noir, Brendan Gleeson spoke about his new role as ‘Silvermane’ and also reflected on the old but super popular role as ‘Alaster “Mad-Eye” Moody' in three of the beloved Harry Potter films. When he was asked if he had any advice for the next person who would take on the role, Brendan simply said, “Absolutely not.” He added, “Enjoy yourself, do your own thing.” 

To jog your memory, Brendan Gleeson had essayed the role of ‘Mad-Eye’ from 2005 to 2010. He starred in three of the original Harry Potter films, which include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Previously, during an interview with The Guardian in 2011, Breadon revealed that, contrary to what people expected, starring in the Harry Potter films did not have an impact on his personal life. This is because most fans did not even recognise him without his detachable eye, one of the most memorable aspects of his character. Brendan stated: 

“As unconventional as my looks are, they're not quite as unconventional as Mad-Eye Moody's, so I've kind of gotten away with murder. Robbie Coltrane told me I should forget about walking through airports again, but to be honest, it's a bad idea to tell your 10-year-old to talk to me, because the poor child makes no connection with Mad-Eye Moody, and he's looking at me, saying, ‘Why am I being asked to talk to a stranger?’ ”

In the same interview, Brendan revealed the reason he took on the role of ‘Mad-Eye’ in the first place. He said that it was because of his four sons that he made the decision, because when they heard about it, they went, “Dad's going to be Mad-Eye Moody. Wa-hey!” Naturally, after receiving such a reaction, as Brandon said, it was “never not going to happen.”

About the new Harry Potter series

It has been almost three years since Warner Bros. Discovery announced its plans for a new Harry Potter series in April 2023. Reportedly, each new season of the show will focus on a single book from the series, similar to the Harry Potter film franchise. Actor, Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of ‘Harry,’ while Arrabella Stanton will play ‘Hermione’ and Alastair Stout will play ‘Ron.’ Apart from them, the show will also feature some well-known and established names like John Lithgow, who will play the role of ‘Albus Dumbledore,’ Janet McTeer as ‘Professor Minerva McGonagall', and Paapa Essiedu as ‘Professor Severus Snape.' 

If reports are believed to be true, the Harry Potter TV series is scheduled to premiere on HBO in the United States with an estimated release date of early 2027. It is worth mentioning that since the character of ‘Mad-Eye Moody' comes way later in the book series, at present, no actor has been cast in the role yet.
