Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry reunited in public to celebrate their 18-year-old daughter, Nahla's high school graduation, according to a Page Six report. The joint appearance was a rare sight and thus has generated immense buzz online. Halle and Gabriel, who parted ways in 2010 and hardly stayed in touch, came together about 16 years later in Los Angeles to support their daughter's major educational milestone ahead of her move to college. Media reports described the dynamics between the former couple as "awkward", yet it was mature of them to put their messy past aside and be there for their child.

Halle Berry arrived at the graduation venue with her current fiancé, Van Hunt. According to the photographs shared by Backgrid, the duo wore outfits that perfectly complemented each other. He had a navy blue t-shirt on while she wore the same-coloured wide jeans. As for Halle's ex and Canadian model, Gabriel Aubry, he came solo to attend the ceremony, wearing a grey suit, white sneakers and black shades. The duo's joint public appearances brought their shared past, particularly their bitter child-support battle, back into the discussion.

Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry engaged in a highly publicised, messy custody and child support battle over their daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry. After their five-year relationship ended in 2010, the legal dispute was far from over. It continued for over a decade in the Los Angeles court system. Following their split, the duo agreed to equal joint custody in 2011. But after about a year, Halle unsuccessfully appealed to the court to move Nahla to France to live with her then-fiancé, French actor, Olivier Martinez. After the court denied the relocation, a violent physical altercation broke out between Gabriel and Oliver during a custody drop-off at her home.

Two years later, in 2014, the Los Angeles court ordered the actress to pay USD 16,000 monthly in child support until a then-6-year-old Nahla, turned 19 or graduated high school. She paid the full child support sum for over eight years and finally expressed her frustration with the system in 2021. According to her, the amount seemed like "extortion." After that, she petitioned the court to reduce the amount to half, and after a favourable ruling, she started paying USD 8,000 per month.

However, Halle still needed to pay Gabriel an additional 4.3% of any annual income she earned in excess of USD 1.95 million. The lengthy financial conflict officially ended as Nahla grew up. Now, the former couple has moved on in their respective lives, with Halle happily engaged to Van Hunt after six years together. The supportive fiancés are occasionally seen together in public.
