Like her professional life, Giada’s personal life has drawn a lot of attention over the years. She was married to fashion designer Todd Thompson, and together they have a daughter. After 11 years of marital bliss, she and Todd got divorced, and since 2015, Giada has been romantically involved with TV producer Shane Farley. Giada has often spoken about navigating life after her divorce, and now let us find out the reason behind it.

Giada and Tom met in the 1990s when she was an anthropology major at UCLA and was deciding what direction her professional life would take. On the other hand, Todd had already established his career as a fashion designer. She soon headed to Paris, trained at Le Cordon Bleu, then returned to Los Angeles to begin her culinary career and eventually entered food television.
After a decade together, the duo married in 2003. By then, Giada and Todd had already navigated a long-distance relationship, career uncertainty, and one spouse's sudden success. Soon, Giada’s television career was beginning to take off. Their relationship eventually became public. Giada and Todd welcomed their daughter, Jade Marie De Laurentiis Thompson, in March 2008.
Why did Giada De Laurentiis and Todd Thompson separate?
Giada had a very demanding television career, and she managed motherhood too. Giada’s popularity rose, and in 2014, she opened her first restaurant, GIADA. A month later, she and Todd had separated. In late 2014, Giada publicly revealed that she and Todd had decided to separate after more than a decade of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in September 2015.
Many attributed their divorce to Giada’s demanding career, as she herself acknowledged in a 2011 interview with Redbook, "I think it can be hard for any man to sometimes be upstaged by his wife." Reports also said her extensive work commitments might have gotten in the way of her marriage.
Beyond that, since Giada had become a popular name, rumors of her alleged link-up often hit the tabloids. In 2011, she was rumored to have been romantically involved with Matt Lauer, who was then anchoring the Today show, on which De Laurentiis has been a frequent guest. According to Us Weekly, she was also rumored to have hooked up with pop star John Mayer. In fact, Giada confirmed to Us Weekly that her husband, Todd Thompson, was embarrassed by the Mayer-related rumors. Whether the speculations were true or not, they likely took their toll on her marriage, which possibly contributed to her divorce.
A divorce is never easy, and Giada felt the same. Despite her busy life and career, the absence of her partner was daunting for her. In an interview post her divorce, Giada spoke about navigating her life on her own and said:
“We had been together since I was 19; I’m now 45. That’s a lifetime with someone. It was a very difficult time. I don’t have the answers; I’m figuring them out as I go. I’m also afraid, like many other women who go through this, and men, too, for that matter.”
