Wildfires continue to cause destruction across southern Europe, and the pair mentioned that they have no idea if their house in France’s Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region is still standing. According to reports, George and Amal Clooney, with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, stayed in the town of Brignoles. It is located in the southeastern region of France.
George and Amal Clooney's house is in one of the many regions where wildfires have spread across France, Spain, Italy and Greece. The married pair had announced their evacuation in a letter to the mayor of Brignoles. It was a representative of George Clooney who had read the details of the letter. It read:
"Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment. As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasise 2 things: first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second, that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
The couple further wrote in the letter that at this point they did not have any idea whether their beautiful home would make it through this terrible moment. For the unversed, the dangerous fires in France are reportedly four times the size of Paris.
A report by the Associated Press mentioned that 224,000 people had been evacuated from the Gironde region of France, and there were around 3,000 people in France’s Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. As per the latest reports, there were 63,152 people who were evacuated in Spain. The wildfire killed two firefighters in Greece. The wildfire reportedly took place due to a heatwave, coupled with tinder-dry conditions, low humidity, and strong winds that fuelled wildfires across southern Europe.
George Clooney was raising his kids in a village in France as he wanted them to be away from Hollywood
George and Amal reportedly had moved to the French countryside in 2025. This was after they were granted French citizenship back in 2025. Earlier, in an interview with Esquire magazine, George had revealed that he wanted to move his family out of the Hollywood glamour after the birth of his twins. George and Amal lived on a farm far from Los Angeles and from a culture that would have robbed his kids of getting a fair shake at life. In his words:
"Yeah, we’re very lucky. You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
George Clooney further continued that he was worried about raising his kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. He felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. Clooney also stated that his kids do not give a shit about fame. He said:
“I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a shit about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
