'The Masked Singer': Unmasking 'Galaxy Girl' Ashley Simpson's Love Story With Husband, Evan Ross

The 14th season of FOX TV's popular singing reality competition, The Masked Singer, rolled out its highly anticipated season finale on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. At the end of the two-hour finale, the winner, Galaxy Girl, was finally unmasked as none other than Ashlee Simpson, the TV star from the early 2000s' MTV reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show. 

With Ashlee Simpson winning the Golden Mask trophy, it was a full-circle moment, marking her stunning comeback after spending decades away from major shows. While many eagle-eyed fans were already convinced that it was Ashlee behind the Galaxy Girl costume, some remained completely fooled till the end.

After her win, the Pieces of Me singer revealed that the toughest part of the competition was knowing that her husband, Evan Ross, was also competing against her beyond the mask, but neither knew what their identities were on the show.

What made this season especially unique was the fact that Simpson and Ross were both contestants, without even seeing each other. It was only after Ross was eliminated in Week 10 that he was unmasked as Stingray. Throughout the competition, the couple was kept completely separated on the set, dressed head-to-toe in black with a strict no-contact rule. Even when they were backstage, the production made sure they crossed paths.

Speaking to Parade, Simpson revealed that while she couldn't be completely sure, she occasionally suspected that Ross was nearby, recognising his signature baggy style. However, security always stepped in before they could confirm it. She said:

"They kept us apart. Like we couldn’t see each other. When you’re on set, you wear a mask and all black and a sweatshirt that says ‘Don’t talk to me’… and black gloves and you don’t know who’s who... Sometimes I could like see like baggy pants, and I was like, yeah, that’s Evan. I know those pants."

Beyond The Masked Singer set, the couple tried to keep their identities under wraps, even from their kids. While Simpson and Ross could maintain their privacy, it didn't work that well for the children. Speaking to Parade after her win, Galaxy Girl shared how their children quickly caught on. Still, Simpson and Ross remained committed to the show’s mystery, embracing the fun of it all. She shared:

“It was definitely like an NDA with our children... they ended up knowing because they would hear us singing and rehearsing.”

Just like Simpson, her husband was also asked about the popular buzz that his wife was also competing on the show in The Masked Singer, and whether he knew her identity. However, Stingray cheekily responded by saying:

“Man, I don’t even know. That would be kind of wild if she was on the show. I feel like she doesn’t need good luck. If she’s if she’s doing anything, she’s performing, she’s the best there.”

Simpson’s win marks a major personal comeback and a full-circle moment. Years after her career was overshadowed by the infamous 2004 SNL lip-sync controversy, she returned to the stage with renewed confidence.
