Outside his achievements in the pool, Frank Busch was a devoted family man. He tied the knot with Patty Busch. Eventually, they stayed married for 54 years. The duo first met when they attended Loyola University in Chicago. The couple built a beautiful life together there. When Frank was busy coaching, Patty was a constant source of support.
She played a significant role in helping him deal with the highs and lows of competitive sports. So, his death marks the end of a long partnership that impressed people both inside and outside the sporting world. Together, Frank and Patty raised five children. In fact, their family members have often shared how the legendary coach passed on his values of hard work, discipline, and humility to his kids. One of his sons, Peter Busch, has made a career as a TV news anchor and opened up about the lessons taught by his father in public. In her post, she described how her brother was a lifelong coach who dedicated himself to the sport from a young age. She revealed that he died from a massive heart attack and remembered him as a man who gave his life to help athletes succeed.

Frank Busch left an undeniable impact on American Swimming. In fact, he spent 22 years as the head coach of the University of Arizona swimming program. There, he transformed the Wildcats into one of the most successful teams in collegiate athletics.
Frank's biggest achievement came in 2008 when Arizona won both the men's and women's NCAA swimming championships in the same year. Under him, Arizona swimmers won dozens of NCAA individual and relay titles, while Frank earned multiple NCAA Coach of the Year and Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors. Later, he became the USA Swimming National Team Director who helped to guide the team through the 2012 and 2016 Olympic cycles.
