A 17-year-old amateur rugby player died after she suffered a head injury during the game. So far, neither the club nor the French Rugby Federation has revealed the nature of her injury. The club paid tribute to the teenager who lost her life, and wrote:

"It is with immense sadness and indescribable pain that Union du Bassin Marmandais learned of the death of Clea. We are also thinking of her loved ones and friends, whose immense pain we share, as well as her teammates, coaches, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her and sharing their passion for rugby with her. This is a terrible ordeal for our club. We will get through it together – united, standing in solidarity, and looking after one another."

The FFR revealed that it has shaken the entire rugby family. In these moments of sadness, the FFR expressed its full support to her family and loved ones. It also extended its sincerest condolences to her teammates, coaches, and all members of the Union du Bassin Marmandais.

The incident happened on October 17, 2026, and the team shared her passing on October 21, 2026. As per the local newspaper, the teenager sustained a serious head injury during a tackle and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, according to the Mayo Clinic, on the field. The teenage athlete was treated by medical staff and first responders before being transported to the hospital.

Florian Grill shared a note on October 23, 2026, and stated that he had asked the entire French rugby community to pay tribute to the teenager over the weekend. They had asked Clea's family that a minute of applause would be observed on all French rugby fields, both amateur and professional. He wrote:

"In agreement with Cléa’s family, a minute of applause will be observed on all French rugby fields, both amateur and professional. Our France XV players will also wear a black armband during their match against New Zealand. These gestures will not make the pain disappear, but they will demonstrate the immense solidarity of our rugby family. But today, time is above all for reflection. All of French rugby is in mourning. And the entire rugby family is by their side."

Netizens also shared their condolences with Clea's family and expressed disbelief. One user wrote, "You will always be in my heart, my dear little sister. I love you so much, so beautiful and so small. I love you terribly, you know. I think of you a lot. Your big brother will always watch over you, as he always has. You'd better keep an eye on me from wherever you are. I love you, my dear."

A second commented, "I'm sorry, I thought I had seen that she had revived. I offer my sincere condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones." A third one shared, "Sincere condolences to his family and his teammates.17 years is not an age to disappear. Courage to you all."

We pray for Clea Menier's family as they navigate the toughest times.
