Dharam Singh Deol, known as Dharmendra is known as the ‘He-Man’ of the Indian cinema. Considered among one of the finest actors of Bollywood, Dharmendra has given us some splendid performances in movies like Phool Aur Pathar, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Resham Ki Dori, Sholay and many more. Voted amongst the ten most handsome men in the world in the 70s, the Punjab da Puttar had fallen madly in love with the southern beauty, Hema Malini while he was already married to Parkash Kaur. With his first wife, Parkash Kaur, Dharam ji has four kids, Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta and Ajeita. And with Hema ji, he has two daughters, Esha and Ahana.
On December 8, 2020, Dharmendra turned 85 and his children, Esha Deol and Bobby Deol penned adorable birthday wishes for him. Esha took to her IG handle and posted two pictures with Dharam ji, where the father-daughter duo twinned in white and blue. Along with the pictures, Esha wrote, ““Holding on to this hand for eternity” Love you papa. Happy Birthday. Wish you happiness & the best of health always.” Esha shared the same picture on her IG stories and wrote, “Happy birthday papa” followed by a heart and evil eye emoticon. On the other hand, Bobby Deol took to his IG handle and shared a throwback picture with papa Dharam where the doting son was seen giving a peck to his daddy and the father-son duo twinned in their attire. Along with the picture, Bobby wrote, “Love you Papa... Happy Birthday.”
In an interview with Bombay Times, the heartthrob of the entire nation, Dharam ji revealed why he doesn’t like having a grand celebration on his birthday. He shared, “Maa bhagwan hoti hai. Jab khushi dene wali nahi rahi, toh kaise manau janam din? Bas rasme nibha leta hoon aur tanhai mein maa ko yaad karke ro leta hoon. Did you know Dharmendra ji was against the idea of Esha Deol Takhtani becoming an actress? Hema Malini and Esha Deol Takhtani had appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show to promote her book, Amma Mia. On the show, Hema Malini had revealed that Dharmendra ji was against Esha’s decision of becoming an actor. Hema ji had shared, "Esha was interested in extracurricular activities such as sports and dance. Like in our house, we used to do dance practice because of which she started liking it and wanted to be a professional dancer and even make her career in Bollywood. However, Dharam ji didn’t like her daughter dancing or making her Bollywood debut and he had an objection to that."
Talking about Bobby and Dharam ji’s relationship then, Bobby had made his comeback in the Bollywood industry with Salman Khan starrer, Race 3, and it was an emotional moment for his father. In an interview with the Indian Express, he had said, “There are ups and downs in everybody’s life. I have also gone through it, everybody goes through it. However, to rise after every fall is the biggest thing, it is remarkable. And I thank the almighty for it, as he might have wanted Bobby to come back too, and it is the wishes and blessings of our audience, and Bobby also took it up and got back to work. Life is to fight, there is nothing in life without the passion to fight. I am very happy that Bobby is back. Now I see him exercising in the gym more, he is addicted to working out, he is in the gym whenever you see him. Just how I would be found in any of the bars (chuckles), sipping on my drinks.
