The incident took place after his first death anniversary. In turn, it has sparked anger among his supporters. Meanwhile, his widow, Erika Kirk, has ascertained that any efforts to remove her husband's legacy will never be successful.
Charlie Kirk's statue was vandalized a few days after its inauguration
Charlie Kirk's new bronze statue, erected outside Turning Point USA headquarters, was inaugurated on September 10, 2026. It was made to honor the late TUPSA founder one year after his death. However, recently, photos of the statue smeared with red paint surfaced online. According to the initial investigation by the authorities, the vandals came in during the night and sprayed red paint across the whole monument.
In fact, the paint was mainly poured around the statue's face and neck. In the same bid, a nearby Christian tribute sign was also defaced. Alongside, the vandals crossed out the name of Jesus beside the sign and left many other markings. After the news went viral, Turning Point USA called out the act and claimed it was a direct attack on Charlie's memories and his values.
The organization immediately started to restore the memorial. They also extended complete support to the law enforcement officials who are reviewing the surveillance footage to find the identities of vandals. Eventually, the damage was cleaned up within hours.
Meanwhile, Erika Kirk also broke her silence on the incident and shared a significant statement on social media. She recalled a saying often mentioned by her late husband and stated that he always believed in creating over destroying. Erika specifically mentioned that Charlie once said that supporters must always build two statues for every one that is destroyed. In her words:
"They thought a bullet would silence my husband's voice, but it only made it louder. They think spray paint can obscure his legacy, but it will only spread it further. Every attempt to tear down what Charlie built makes us root deeper and work even harder."
Erika argued that every attack on Charlie Kirk's work will only strengthen the determination of everyone who supported him. So, she believes the incident won't discourage his followers. Instead, it would encourage them to work on the causes promoted by Charlie.
Erika Kirk also emphasized faith in her statement. She also spoke about the vandalism of the Christian tribute sign near the statue, and called it an attack on her religious beliefs. Sharing her thoughts, Erika said:
"If you think crossing out the name of Jesus Christ will silence Christians, history has already proved you wrong."
The new CEO of Turning Point USA mentioned that the supporters would restore both the memorial statue and the sign in its original form. In turn, neither vandalism nor intimidation would change their beliefs. She ended the statement with a pledge to continue moving forward and declared that they would "never give up and never surrender."
Notably, the vandalism took place only days after the first-year death anniversary of Charlie Kirk. For those who do not know, the 31-year-old was fatally shot on September 10, 2025 when he was addressing a campus event at Utah Valley University. At present, the accused in the shooting has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting his trial.

Earlier this month, Erika also reflected on the difficult year after her husband's death in public statements and shared a personal essay. She cited how grief is a universal experience that goes beyond political differences. The 37-year-old also talked about the challenges of raising their young children without him.
However, she mentioned that a piece of advice by Second Lady, Usha Vance during one of her darkest moments helped her get through it. Usha asked her to focus on the next 15 minutes at a time. Erika explained how the simple guidance became a lifeline for her during the most challenging phase of her life.
