The San Francisco Chronicle reported that a woman accused Swalwell of sexually assaulting her twice. On April 12, Swalwell suspended his campaign for governor of California after multiple women accused him of inappropriate behaviour.

It’s been more than a month since the accusations against Swalwell made their way to the headlines, and his family is facing the brunt, especially his wife of nine years, Brittany Watts. A source told people that Brittany had no idea about her husband’s sexual misconduct till multiple allegations were made against him by women.

The source also mentioned that Brittany is taking things slow and is more concerned about her kid’s privacy. Elaborating on Brittany’s state of mind after Eric’s scandal, the source revealed:

“The whole thing has been deeply devastating. Watts has been taking things day by day and prioritizing stability and privacy for her children above everything else. She had no knowledge of what was happening and is grappling with the same shock, hurt and disbelief that people close to the family are feeling.”

There have also been reports that Eric and Brittany have been living separately after the scandal broke. She was recently spotted without her wedding ring, and it gave a hint about the marital issues she is having with Eric. The source also told People that “Brittany is extremely strong, successful and very capable of leaving him."

In the same interaction, the source further confirmed that Eric and Brittany are staying separate as she is living away from him with her children, Nelson, Cricket and Hank. Talking about Eric’s double life, the source mentioned:

On April 10, 2026, the San Francisco Chronicle reported details of Eric Swalwell’s growing instability within the political operation due to the resignation of several staff. The staff’s exit from his campaign was reportedly due to the sexual assault allegations made by several women. The report mentioned an unnamed woman who described her interactions with Swalwell and revealed being assaulted by him twice.

The woman stated that the assault happened in 2019 and 2024. The woman worked for Swalwell in 2019 when the first assault happened. In 2024, the assault happened after a charity gala. She told the newspaper that in both cases, she was too drunk to provide consent. She also revealed that she didn’t go to the police as she was afraid that no one would believe her. The Associated Press has not been able to independently verify her account and identity. Her lawyer declined to comment.

According to the Chronicle, there have been many Uncorroborated rumours about Swalwell behaving inappropriately with female staffers, and they have been surfacing on social media. CNN also reported that an ex-staffer and three additional women accused Swalwell of making sexual advances and sending explicit photos and messages.
