Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited crime thriller series, Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, is streaming on the OTT giant, Netflix and has been receiving great reviews. Helmed by Neeraj Pandey, under the banner of Friday Storytellers, the show stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead role, backed by some of the most talented stars from the entertainment world.
The show, which features seven episodes follows smuggling routes that run through Al-Dera, Addis Ababa, Milan, and Bangkok. The show offers a view of how traffickers operate within the system using coded paths and fake paperwork. The careful misdirection leads them to their mission without raising suspicion.

In the first episode ‘Custom vs Popat’, it is shown how people carry luxury items like bags, watches, gold and even dr*gs through various methods, which no one can imagine. The gist of how the Customs department is often fooled by carriers is clearly evident.

At the centre of the international smuggling web stands a dedicated customs task force stationed at the busiest airport, Mumbai International Airport. The force is led by none other than Emraan Hashmi, who goes to any extent to stop the smuggling.

The show features Emran Hashmi in the lead as ‘Arjun Meena’, a clean and honest Customs Officer stationed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Emraan’s razor-sharp dialogue delivery and screen presence add to the series' charm. The actor is in his fearless self, tackling the syndicate operating in Mumbai airport.

Though Emraan Hashmi is the hero of the series, Sharad Kelkar came as a surprise element in the show. Sharad plays the antagonist, 'Baba Choudhary', who is the main man behind the international smuggling. As his business faces hindrance due to Emraan and his team’s interference, 'Baba' takes every measure to stop him, even if it means threatening his family.

Apart from Emraan Hashmi and Sharad Kelkar, the show features officers Amruta Khanvilkar’s character ‘Mitali Kamath’ and Nandish Singh Sandhu’s character ‘Ravinder Gujjar’ and Anurag Sinha as ‘Prakash Kumar’. Apart from these actors, the series also features Zoya Afroz, Anuja Sathe, Freddy Daruwala, Jameel Khan and a few others in pivotal roles.
In an interview with IANS, Emraan Hashmi revealed that he grabbed the role after the first few narrations. Revealing how he binge-read all the episodes, he said:
“After Neeraj's narration, I was given 4 or 5 episodes. And I kind of binge read them and I was completely sold. I was like, yeah, this is something that I want to grab with both hands. Playing a customs officer, this world is very new. Not just for me, but for all the actors.”
