Emma Roberts' 5-Yr-Old Son Fulfilled 'Father's Duty' As Eric Roberts Chose To Skip Wedding Amid Feud

However, more than her wedding, it was her father, Eric Roberts' absence that left many wondering. But what the father couldn't do, her son did. Emma Roberts's five-year-old son proudly filled her father's absence during the most important ritual of her white wedding. The five-year-old Rhodes proudly walked Emma down the aisle as he donned a white suit. For the unversed, Rhodes is Emma's first son with her ex, Garrett Hedlund, and was born in 2020.
In one of the photos, the mother-son duo was seen walking hand-in-hand towards Emma's prince charming, Cody, while their close family and friends became witnesses to it. For the big day, Emma picked a flowy custom wedding gown by Monique Lhuillier in a vintage rose, and she paired it with a sheer shawl and a white veil.
For the unversed, Eric Roberts earlier confirmed that he skipped his daughter's wedding. Emma Roberts is the daughter of Eric Roberts and his ex-partner, Cunningham, in 1991, but he lost custody of her when she was a baby due to his drug addiction. In his statement, Eric said that he loved Emma and always has, and expressed happiness on starting a new life:
"I love my daughter, always have, always will. It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants."
Earlier, in an interaction during a podcast, Eric revealed that people make assumptions around his relationship with Emma. He added that they do not know what happened behind closed doors and stated that family relationships are rarely straightforward. He said:
"It’s only complicated through outside eyes because they don’t get any of it, so they have their own take, whatever that is... they're not really involved."
Over the years, Eric has taken responsibility for his act amid a family feud. Emma was born in 1991 to Eric and Kelly but he lost the custodial right o her after their split as he struggled with drugs and depression. He often talked about his failure as a father and admitted that his relationship was a wreck and that his lack of involvement in the role as a father led to his split. He said:
"I was not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever because I was a car wreck. I was a car wreck because of many things, but I take full responsibility for it."
However, in his memoir, Eric addressed losing the custodial battle and stated that it was the hardest chapter of his life, losing his daughter. He reflected on the heartbreak and stated that it was the biggest reason for his addiction.
In another podcast, Eric shared that he loved his little daughter with all the strength he had. He accepted that things took a turn as he couldn't take on the duties and realities of raising a baby when she came into his life. Not only this, he couldn't handle being a parent.
