Born as Ravi Kapoor and knows as the ‘Jumping Jack of Bollywood’, Jeetendra is an institution of talent. He had acted in more than 200 films as a lead actor in his six-decade long film career. With movies like Farz, Sanjog, Humjoli, Aulad, Himmatwala and Tohfa, Jeetendra had set a benchmark in acting. Apart from his effortless acting and dance moves, Jeetendra was a trendsetter. The t-shirt and white shoes he had picked up from a retail store for the famous song, Mast Baharon Ka Mai Aashiq had become a style statement.
Jeetendra had met his wife, Shobha Kapoor when she was only 14. At the time when Jeetendra was struggling to make a mark in Bollywood in the early '60s, Shobha, who was then an Air Hostess with British Airways, had stood by him throughout his struggling period. It was in 1974, when the two had embarked their journey together, as husband and wife. They are not just proud parents of Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor, but are also doting grandparents of Laksshya Kapoor (born to Tusshar via IVF) and Ravie Kapoor (born to Ekta through surrogacy).
On April 7, 2021, Jeetendra turned 79 and a few hours back, his daughter, Ekta penned a heartmelting birthday wish for him. She took to her IG handle and shared some lovely moments of her father. Along with the video, Ekta revealed which is the one thing she imbibed from him. She wrote, “Happie bday papa! U r d wind beneath My wings!!! U helped me grow n supported me when I chose to be a producer! Love is acceptance u taught me that! Love u.”
In a lot of interviews and media interactions, Ekta Kapoor had revealed that her parents are the reason behind her success and growth. The doting parents had given the room to their daughter to find herself, what she wants to become and then had helped her in achieving those dreams. On TED Talks India Nayi Soch, Ekta had revealed how her father, Jeetendra had reacted when he was asked to buy gold for his daughter by someone instead of investing in her career. Proudly revealing what her father, Jeetendra had said, Ekta had recalled, “The gold should be within her. What will she do with tangible gold?” Stressing on the same, Ekta had continued, “I want every girl to find the gold within her. And that gold should shine on the entire world.”
Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor’s son, Tusshar Kapoor had broken all the stereotypes when he had decided to opt for single parenting. He had welcomed a baby boy, Laksshya Kapoor via surrogacy on June 1, 2016. Following the footsteps of her brother, Tusshar, Ekta Kapoor too had welcomed a baby boy, Ravie Kapoor in her life via surrogacy on January 31, 2019. Ekta, who shares a warm bond with her daddy, Jeetendra, had decided to name her son after him as Jeetendra's real name was Ravi, hence she had opted for the name Ravie Kapoor.
In an interview with Firstpost, Jeetendra had shared his opinion on his kids deciding not to tie the knot. He had said, "I believe one must be happy in life. (It doesn't matter) whether you are married or single. For me, the idea was that Tusshar and Ekta should have someone to come back home to. A baby is the biggest blessing and responsibility to have. With responsibility comes to passion, love, happiness and a purpose in life. There cannot be a bigger responsibility than taking care of a baby."
Happiest birthday, Jeetu ji!
