The post, which remains visible on Sprouse’s X account, has drawn renewed attention following the July 29 release of Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret.
What did Dylan Sprouse say about Jared Leto?
Long before the internet exploded with discussions about the actor's controversial conduct with women, the Suite Life of Zack & Cody star publicly called him out over alleged direct messages to young female models. When Sprouse made the post back in May 2018, he was 25 while Leto was 46. Addressing the actor directly, Sprouse wrote:
"Yo @JaredLeto, now that you've slid into the dm's of every female model aged 18-25, what would you say your success rate is?"
The post did not appear to be prompted by a specific allegation at the time, but it has taken on new significance amid the latest accusations against Leto. In fact, director James Gunn also joined the conversation at the time, appearing to question whether Leto's alleged online outreach extended to girls younger than 18. Gunn's response was later deleted.
Neither Sprouse nor Gunn has publicly revisited the exchange in connection with the latest allegations. However, the new BBC documentary has led many to revisit the tweet.
Jared Leto faces flak over fresh sexual misconduct allegations
The resurfaced tweet comes days after the documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret aired on the BBC on July 29, 2026. The documentary presented accounts from 10 women who alleged sexual misconduct by Leto between 2002 and 2016. According to reports about the documentary, nine of the women spoke publicly for the first time, while four alleged that they were teenagers when the incidents took place. The BBC said it examined accounts and corroborating material as part of its reporting.
Apart from the allegations, the BBC documentary also features footage of Leto performing with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars at Ex’Pression College in Emeryville, California, in 2013. The footage shows Jared inviting a woman on stage, and he tells her, "Give me a hug, first of all."
Jared then asks the woman to introduce herself. The woman responds by saying that she is from Los Angeles. A few moments later, Jared gives an impression of Matthew McConaughey and starts saying a phrase from the film Dazed and Confused, released in 1993. Jared can be heard saying:
“That’s what I like about high school girls. I keep getting older, they stay the same age. Alright, alright, alright.”
Leto, however, has categorically denied the allegations. In a statement reported by Entertainment Weekly, the Chapter 27 star said: "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false."
The new allegations follow a 2025 investigation that featured accounts from nine women who accused Leto of inappropriate behavior, including allegations involving women who said they were underage at the time. Leto's representatives denied those claims as well.
Leto's past comments have also resurfaced
Amid the renewed scrutiny, an old video of Leto performing with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars has also drawn attention. During a 2013 performance, Leto invited a woman onto the stage and made a reference to the 1993 film Dazed and Confused, repeating its well-known line about high school girls.
The footage has resurfaced as discussions surrounding the new allegations continue online. It should, however, be noted that an old comment or resurfaced social media post does not by itself establish that the allegations are true. The accusations remain allegations, and Leto has denied wrongdoing.
