The Dutch royal family has come to the spotlight for a chilling security scare. The family's heir apparent, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia, aka the Princess of Orange, and her younger sister, Princess Alexia, recently became targets of a chilling murder plot. The suspect was accused of plotting a sinister attack to kill the future Dutch queen and her sister.
After authorities detained the suspect, they found alarming evidence, including two axes containing disturbing words engraved on them. After back-to-back targets on the heir apparent of the Netherlands, the new evidence suggests the threat may have been far more serious than initially believed.

According to prosecutors, the suspect, a 33-year-old male, was arrested earlier this year in February in The Hague. According to a court scheduling order on The Hague Public Prosecutor's Office's website, he is supposed to go to court on Monday, May 4, 2026. The suspect had two axes with scary words on them, including "Alexia," "Mossad," and the Nazi salute "Sieg Heil."

A handwritten note was also reported to be found, mentioning both princesses' names, "Amalia," "Alexia," along with the word "bloodbath," suggesting the possibility of a planned violent attack. While authorities have yet to publicly confirm whether the suspect was acting alone or influenced by a wider extremist ideology, the discoveries gace raised serious alarms about the young royals.

The identity of the suspect has not been publicly disclosed, in line with Dutch privacy laws. However, officials have confirmed that he is 33 years old and is expected to appear in court on Monday. Sources say the man was detained in February 2026 after authorities uncovered the suspicious materials. While details about his background remain unclear, the nature of the evidence has led investigators to treat the case with urgency.

At this stage, most of the information remains under wraps, and it cannot be officially confirmed whether the suspect had any direct access to the royal family or had taken steps beyond the plot. Whether or not he had connections with extremist groups is currently being examined. With the lack of public information, many are awaiting the court proceedings about the possible motivation behind the murder plot.

This is, unfortunately, not the first safety hazard to have fallen upon Princess Catharina-Amalia, 22. As the heiress to the Dutch throne, she has faced multiple security scares in recent years, leaving citizens seriously concerned. In 2022, she had to leave Amsterdam student housing after authorities reportedly uncovered a kidnapping plot. The eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, who was attending the University of Amsterdam, had to restrict her movements due to credible security threats linked to organised crime groups.
The Princes of Orange was 18 and had just begun her studies at the university, and was living in student accommodation. Intelligence suggested she was being monitored by organised crime networks, possibly drug cartels. For her to continue her studies, she could no longer live in Amsterdam and had to move under strict protection.

During a press conference, the King and Queen revealed that their daughter had to be moved to the heavily secured Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague. While she could continue attending the university, she couldn't go outside, and the Queen had shared publicly how the situation significantly limited her independence and day-to-day activities. Queen Maxima was quoted as saying:
"She is not out of the house... It has huge consequences for her life. Means she doesn't live in Amsterdam, and also that she can't really go outside. Those consequences are very difficult for her. No student life for her, like other students have. I'm very proud of her and how she keeps it all going... It's not nice to see your child live like that. She can go to university, but that's it."

Before this, Amalia had faced another security crisis in 2020, when she received violent and threatening messages, including rape threats. The authorities had considered the threats credible enough to put the young princess into hiding for a while. Amalia's younger sister, Princess Alexia, 20, has likewise grown up under heightened security, largely maintaining a lower public profile.
The Dutch royal family, known as the House of Orange-Nassau, is led by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, with Princess Catharina-Amalia as the heir to the throne. Princess Catharina-Amalia took a gap year after finishing high school and later planned to study politics, psychology, law, and economics. It was reported that she declined an annual allowance worth around USD 2 million before turning 18, saying it felt inappropriate without fulfilling any royal duties. These qualities have made her a widely loved figure across Europe.
For now, details about the alleged murder plot remain scarce, and there has been no official statement from the Dutch Royal House.
