Also called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), drones are a new angle to the photo work. Photographer Lalit Gaur, who has rented out a drone recently talks about its technical aspects:

“Being fitted with high-definition cameras like GoPro (very small-sized action cameras), the results are just incredible. Whereas a usual video camera can reach up to a height of 25 to 50 feet, drones have an ability to go beyond 50 to 100 feet in air and capture the effect which otherwise isn’t possible with regular cameras. Wireless drones are also a big relief for the guests who panic tripping over the entangled cables lying on the marriage ground.”

Another photographer Prateek Kashyap of 'Dreamweavers' asserts:

“These are devices controlled through a set of programs like Wi-Fi, GPRS, etc. It runs on batteries, remote controls and is tedious in its arrangement; the reason why we provide only five to six flights of around 8-10 minutes (approx.) each, per wedding. It comes in various sizes and shapes and as for the cost, charges for booking a drone varies between Rupees 10k to 15k.“

The stunning effects of a camera following the couple walking down the aisle and capturing their lovely moments on the stage will amaze your guests like never before. Needless to mention, it will be a big style statement and it will make your wedding a much-talked-about affair for a long time.

P.S. But it has its limits

Despite all the positive aspects, there are certain rules and regulations to be followed to fly off this unmanned object. Photographer Gulzar Sethi alerts us about the most basic thing:

“The fun-looking gadget is an aircraft and certainly not a toy; the reason why it’s under a legal microscope. So, without obtaining administrative permissions there are chances you undergo police enquiries or even arrest. The flights of the drones are restricted owing to the property damage, danger zones and other security issues.”

So, after making sure it is allowed in your venue, other factors to consider are space and setting of the venue. In a compact space, enclosed halls or indoor banquets, there is no guarantee that it will not collide with an object or a person. Even though it is safe in expert hands, you cannot completely rely on it. Also, drones are not your full-time photographer either. Double-checking of batteries, lengthy set-up and its weight make it inadequate to operate full-time. So, it’s just a short video that you can capture with a drone. Also, some of your guests might get irritated by it as its keeps buzzing all the time.
