Drishyam 3 is a highly anticipated sequel after the grand success of Drishyam and Drishyam 2. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta in lead roles. Akshaye Khanna, who is rising high in success for his role as 'Rehman Dakait' in the blockbuster spy action thriller, Dhurandhar, was part of Drishyam 2 and has grabbed significant attention from the audience. Now that Drishyam 3 is on the cards, the Dhurandhar star has stepped down from the project. Following this producer, Mangat Pathak slammed him.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Drishyam 3 producer, Mangat Pathak opened up about Akshaye Khanna’s unprofessional attitude. Recalling a time when he made Section 375 starring Akshaye Khanna, Mangat shared that many people told him and his team not to work with the Dhurandhar star because of his unprofessionalism. He mentioned that Akshaye’s energy on set is absolutely 'toxic'. Mangat highlighted that it was Section 375 that gave Akshaye recognition. He added that Akshaye has got all the big offers after Drishyam 2. He was quoted as saying:
"There was a time when Akshaye was nothing. That’s when I made Section 375 (2019) with him. Even then, so many people told us not to work with him because of his unprofessional behaviour. His energy on set is absolutely toxic. Section 375 got him recognition. Later, I signed him in Drishyam 2 (2022). He has got all the big offers only after Drishyam 2. Uske pehle woh 3-4 saal tak ghar pe baitha hua tha."

In the same interview, Mangat revealed that Akshaye backed off from Drishyam 3 just 10 days before his first day of scheduled shoot. He shared that when Akshaye heard the script of the upcoming sequel to Drishyam 2, he liked it very much and predicted that the film would earn Rs. 500 crore.

Akshaye lauded the director and writer for the script and said that he had never heard anything like that before. Soon after the negotiations were discussed, Akshaye’s fees were finalised, and he signed an agreement. The Dhurandhar star also received an advance, and the production team had paid the designer for his costumes. However, Akshaye declined to be part of the sequel at the last moment.

Further in the interview, Mangat slammed Akshaye Khanna for flaunting his stardom. The producer shared that Akshaye told him that Dhurandhar became successful because of him. However, Mangat disagreed and explained that both Chhava and Dhurandhar’s success came because of the two stars, Vicky Kaushal and Ranveer Singh. Mangat mentioned that Akshaye thinks of himself as a superstar now. He highlighted that there have been certain factors that made Dhurandhar a success. He added that success has gone into Akshaye’s head. Explaining how Akshaye has changed after Dhurandhar became a hit, Mangat said:

"If he thinks he has become a superstar, then he should try mounting a superstar budget film with some studio and see who greenlights his film with that kind of budget. Some actors do ensemble cast films, and after those movies become big hits, they start thinking that they are the star. That’s exactly what has happened with him. He thinks he’s a superstar now. Success has gone into his head. He told us, 'Dhurandhar is working because of me'. He needs to understand that multiple factors worked in favour of Dhurandhar."
