Donna Mills and Richard Holland’s love story started in 1979. It is reported to be one of Donna’s longest relationships, although a lot of details about their first meeting and more remain unknown. Notably, the duo had an on-and-off relationship while they were together until 1999.
Richard Holland worked as an advertising executive. Apart from that, he has pursued a career in various fields as a writer, producer, and rock guitarist. Before dating Mills, he was married to singer Chaka Khan. Despite keeping their romance private, Richard and Donna appeared together at multiple events across two decades, including the 100th taping celebrations in Los Angeles, the 1986 Femme Awards in New York, a Cirque du Soleil AIDS benefit in Santa Monica in 1992, and more.
In 2023, they were photographed together at the American Humane Hero Dog Awards in Palm Beach. Back in June 1986, a report claimed that Richard moved in with Donna at her house, which was claimed to be worth USD 1.5 million.
The duo said in an interview during that period that they share a turbulent relationship. However, Donna expressed her happiness in the same conversation, saying that she had never met someone for whom she was ready to give up her privacy. Richard also stated:

A year before her split from Richard, Donna appeared in an episode of Intimate Portrait in 1998, addressing the reasons why she was not getting married. The well-known actress said that she never dreamed about it. Donna recalled her childhood, saying that although she was attracted to dolls and other things, she never had the same feelings for a bride doll or bride image. She continued:
“My parents didn’t have a particularly good relationship. I saw my [mother] when she was totally dependent on my father. That didn’t make her happy. I bought into that. That’s what I saw. I said, ‘Okay, if I want to be really happy, I have to depend on me.’”
