The moment is not just a special occasion for the Vance family but also a historic feat, as it is the first time in 150 years that a U.S. Vice President and his wife have welcomed a baby during their tenure.

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to extend his warm wishes to the Vance family on the arrival of a new bundle of joy. In fact, she also shared the first public photo by Alec Neel. The little one was lovingly held in the hospital by his older brother, Vivek, and sister, Mirabel, who sat with him.
In turn, the President commented, "Congratulations! A perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family." Soon, the post gained attention, and Republican supporters began celebrating the arrival of the Vice President's fourth child.
For those unaware, earlier, JD and Usha Vance had announced their son, Alec's birth through a joint Instagram post. The couple also shared that their newborn son was "happy and healthy''. Therefore, they extended their gratitude to the doctors and medical staff at Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit for caring for the family.
The couple had also mentioned that their three older children, Ewan, aged 9, Vivek, 6, and Mirabel, aged 4, were excited to welcome their baby brother. In fact, Alec's birth is also historically significant as it is only the second known birth to a sitting vice president's family during a vice presidency. Rather, it is the first since 1870 when Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen, welcomed a son.
What inspired JD and Usha Vance to have a fourth child?
JD and Usha Vance announced her pregnancy in January 2026. Later, the U.S Vice President also opened up about balancing his family life with the responsibilities of serving as the Vice President. Although he previously said he would not take paternity leave, he plans to spend more time at home after the baby's arrival.
Previously, in his 2026 memoir Communion: Finding My Way Back To Faith, JD had shared what influenced him and especially his wife to expand their families. He mentioned that they had a conversation with Erika Kirk, the widow of late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who played a meaningful role in their decision.
According to JD, Erika shared how she wished that she had more kids with her late husband, which deeply affected him and Usha. In turn, the birth of their fourth child represented hope during a difficult time.
Over the years, JD has publicly encouraged others to have stronger family values. He also spoke about the importance of raising kids. Meanwhile, his wife, Usha, has started her children's literacy initiative with a Storytime with the Second Lady program.
For those unaware, JD and Usha Vance first met when they used to study at Yale Law School in the early 2010s. Although, they came from different backgrounds, they soon formed a close bond. In fact, they also shared mutual academic interests and eventually began to date.
JD grew up in a working-class Ohio family that faced constant struggles. Meanwhile, Usha was raised in San Diego by Indian immigrant parents. She came from an upper-middle-class and academic family household. Soon, the their different upbringings became the strength of their relationship.
Eventually, they got married in 2014 in an interfaith ceremony that honored both JD's Christian Faith and Usha's Hindu beliefs. The U.S Vice President has often praised how his wife brought a calming influence in his life, while Usha admired how he embraced her family's traditions, like learning to cook Indian food. Over time, they welcomed three kids, and now the fourth one has completed their family.
