The documentary follows the high-profile Ohio criminal case of Mackenzie Shirilla, a 17-year-old (now 21) who was convicted of dual murder. She crashed her car into a wall at 100mph and killed two passengers. One of them was her 20-year-old boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and the other was their friend, 19-year-old Davion Flanagan.

The Crash is not the first documentary made on Mackenzie Shirilla, but the latest documentary has made people dig a lot of insights into the case, making Shirilla a popular name. The documentary surpassed 39 million views in its first nine days of release and has brought huge fame to its subject, Mackenzie, who was convicted of dual murders.

Shirilla not just showed zero remorse despite being sentenced to two concurrent 15-year-to-life terms in 2023, but is also enjoying every moment of the fame currently. Now her late boyfriend, Dominic Russo’s sister, Christine Russo, spoke about her feelings towards Shirilla and her recent tryst with fame. Speaking to TMZ Live, Christine revealed:

“It's absolutely infuriating. It's exactly what she's always wanted. The second after she killed my brother and Davon, within hours of killing two young men, she lay in a hospital bed making TikToks and trying to get modelling gigs on Instagram. That's all she's ever cared about… She's loving every second of the attention she's getting."

Mackenzie Shirilla is living a lavish life inside jail with crowdfunding platforms

In the same interaction, Christine Russo is leading a lavish life inside the jail despite committing two cold-blooded murders. Russo stated that Shirilla has been gathering funds through donation sites. Shirilla's personal amenities include several pairs of shoes, USD 400 hoodies, hair tools, and waist trainers, claims Russo.

Christine Russo pointed out the loopholes in the outdated legislation that have allowed Shirilla to leverage social media and crowdfunding platforms. Speaking about Shirilla’s lavish life inside prison, Russo pointed out:

“I've also spoke to people that she was in prison with and she's living a completely lavish lifestyle and they're funded by these people that you know she's gotten the attention from [because of] the case. She's got everything she wants in there. I imagine there are people who are putting money on her commissary so that she can go and get all this stuff."

Mackenzie Shirilla's debatable social media activities just days after the crash

Following the dreadful July 31, 2022, car crash that took away two lives, Mackenzie Shirilla was admitted to the hospital for injuries around her neck and other parts. At that time, she was still active on social media and even made some questionable updates. She and her mother, Natalie Shirilla, actively sought influencer and modelling work just days after the incident. At that time, a fashion company reached out to Shirilla on Instagram regarding a potential collaboration. However, instead of declining or ignoring it, Mackenzie and her mom, Natalie, aggressively pursued the opportunity. 

 She even posted a video of herself in a hospital gown and wearing a neck brace the day she was discharged from the hospital. She vlogged herself being wheeled out of the building, with a flower tucked behind her ear. Additionally, just three months after the crash, she posted a TikTok video showing herself and her friends in Halloween costumes, with makeup resembling corpses'.
