Famous singer, Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Dlamini, has made a place as a pop-rap star. Her hit numbers, such as Say So are loved across the world. Despite having a massive global success and name, her personal life has been no less than a rollercoaster, especially her strained relationship with her father, Dumisani Dlamini, who is a South African actor.
Doja Cat has always described him as an absentee father and claimed that she hardly knew him. Now, years after receiving the accusation from his daughter, her father, Dumisani, opened up about his side of the story, and accused her mother of brainwashing her.

Doja has often described her father as absent while she was growing up. The revelation resurfaced amid her ongoing world tour. In a series of videos, her father chose to end his silence on the matter. He shared his side of the story and what actually happened in the family. He denied all the allegations made by his daughter against him that he had abandoned her at a young age. He stated that this has been misinterpreted. Dumisani claimed that he had always been with her, if not physically, but with his heart. He added that there were circumstances which forced him to be away.

Dlamini clarified that he never left his child. In fact, he lashed out at her mother and claimed that she was the one who brainwashed her into believing that he neglected her. The actor claimed that Doja's mother influenced her view of him on his daughter in the past years. As per him, their family broke down not due to abandonment but rather a narrative that was created within the family. In his video, he said:
"That white woman brainwash my baby that I left her. I never left my kid."

Talking about their no-contact to lack of connection situation, Dlamini stated that opportunities for reconciliation had existed, but they were avoided. Talking about Doja Cat's visit to South Africa, Dlamini shared that she had the chance to see him, but she chose to keep the distance intact. Dlamini tried to solve the situation and apologised for hurting anyone with his remark. He called himself a man of integrity and respect. He said:

"Doja played the cards because of the influence of her mother. She came to South Africa, had the power to see me and faked it. What I want to say to you guys is, I'm sorry if I ever touched anyone's nerves. I'm a man of integrity, respect and love."
For the unversed, Doja Cat was born to parents with artistic backgrounds. But due to the cultural differences, the family was broken. Her father, Dumisani Dlamini, is a South African actor, dancer, and composer. He is famously known for his role in the 1992 film, Sarafina! alongside Whoopi Goldberg. He is a celebrated figure in South Africa for his stage and screen performances. Despite his accomplishments, he never built a relationship with his daughter. Doja has often stated that she has ‘never met’ him, even though he occasionally praises her success in interviews.

On the other hand, Doja's mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, is a Jewish-American painter and clothing designer. Raised in a creative household, Doja was deeply influenced by her mother’s way of living life. In interviews, she described Sawyer as a 'the one' who supported her passion for music and art. After her separation from Dumisani, Deborah raised Doja and her brother, Raman, splitting their childhood years between New York and California.
