Divya Gokulnath was born in 1987 in a loving family in Bengaluru. Talking about her parents, Divya’s father was a dedicated nephrologist, who used to work at Apollo Hospitals. While on the other side, her mother was a programming executive at the esteemed Indian Government broadcasting company, Doordarshan. Right from her birth, Divya was pampered by her parents, as she was their only child and shared a close bond with her mother and father.
The famous entrepreneur, Divya Gokulnath’s educational background speaks volumes about her expertise in the education domain. Divya completed her schooling at the Frank Anthony Public School. After finishing her schooling, Divya pursued a Bachelor of Technology degree in Biotechnology from the famous RV College of Engineering.
Following her graduation in 2007, Divya Gokulnath had a fateful encounter with her future husband, Byju Raveendran, when she decided to appear in the GRE exam to apply for a Master’s Studies abroad. Byju was Divya's GRE exam preparation instructor, and that’s how they met for the first time.

It was Divya Gokulnath’s inquisitive nature that left Byju Raveendran impressed, as she used to ask a lot of good questions during their breaks. After seeing her capabilities, Byju urged Divya to consider a career in teaching. Taking his advice to heart, Divya embarked on her teaching journey in 2008 at the young age of 21. Reflecting on her early days as a teacher, Divya shared in a 2020 interview with Fortune India that she used to teach around 100 students in a large auditorium. Throughout her teaching tenure, Divya adeptly taught subjects such as mathematics, english, and logical reasoning. Speaking about the same, she said:
"I remember the large auditorium-style class, with around 100 students. To appear more mature, I would wear a saree."
Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath fell deeply in love after a series of meetings. The couple was not only madly in love with each other but was also quite focused on bringing their business ideas to life.
After dating each other for some time, Divya and Byju sealed their relationship with marriage in 2009. Over the years, the lovely couple welcomed two sons into their lives, Nish Byju in 2013 and Nivin Byju in 2020, completing their beautiful family.
It was in 2011 when Divya Gokulnath and her husband, Byju Raveendran embarked on their entrepreneurial journey as they founded an online education platform by the name, Byju’s. Initially focused on in-person education to supplement school learning, Divya and Byju later expanded their company's operations to include an innovative online app featuring video lessons.
Drawing on her teaching expertise, Divya Gokulnath actively participated in creating educational videos and played a crucial role in the growth of Byju’s. The teacher-turned-entrepreneur also uses her writing skills to contribute online, covering topics such as the future of education, parenting, and empowering women in STEM fields.
Not only this, Divya Gokulnath is also renowned and respected for her views on gender equality. She has been vocal about addressing the gender pay gap in India. The female entrepreneur has shared her insights and experiences in multiple interviews, including discussing the challenges women entrepreneurs have faced over the years.
Notably, Divya Gokulnath was appointed as the Chair of the EdTech Taskforce by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry in March 2022, further solidifying her influence in the education sector.
