Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe highly anticipated film, Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has finally arrived in theaters after a long wait. For those unaware, it was released on November 5, 2026, and has already created a buzz among movie lovers. Many have also compared the new film to the hit 1987 TV series Ramayan.
Now, in a new interview, Dipika Chikhlia, who played the role of ‘Sita’ in the TV show, is opening up about the movie. She also addressed Sai Pallavi’s action sequence in Ramayana, which has become a topic of debate among viewers.
Dipika Chikhlia reveals if she has watched Ramayana and shares her thoughts on Sai Pallavi's action sequence
During an interview with Free Press Journal, when asked if she has already watched Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Dipika Chikhlia revealed that she has yet to watch the new release. However, she admitted that she has plans to watch it some time after Diwali. She said that she was sure it must be a very grand movie.
Dipika then addressed how the makers of Ramayana have shown Sai Pallavi's ‘Sita’ doing action and that it is getting mixed responses from the audience. The actress said that she saw the action sequence on Instagram. Recalling Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’ Ramayana, which had inspired her TV show, Dipika said that she couldn't remember ever having those kinds of action scenes.

However, she acknowledged that there are over 300 Ramayanas in India and every story is a bit different from the other. This is why there’s a high possibility that the film’s makers might have used a Ramayana that she is not aware of. Dipika said:
“The memory that I have of Valmiki's Ramayana and Tulsidas' Ramayana, which was majorly a part of our Ramayan, I don't remember that anywhere we had those kinds of scenes. But there are more than 300 Ramayanas in our country. Every story, every Ramayana is a little different from the other one. So they (makers) may have picked up something from some Ramayana, which I'm not aware of.”
In an interview a few months ago, Dipika revealed what she thought about Sai Pallavi playing the role of ‘Sita.’ She confessed that she has seen Sai's work and called her a phenomenal actor. But despite this, she has doubts about how Sai would look as ‘Sita.’ She explained that in Tulsidas' Ramayana, ‘Sita’ was a woman with almond eyes, a certain height, hair, and skin.
She said that this is what Ramanand Sagar saw in her when he was making the TV show. Since Sai Pallavi has curly hair, Dipika Chikhlia also added that “Sitaji with curly hair is not mentioned in Ramayan.”
It is worth mentioning that Arun Govil, who famously portrayed ‘Lord Rama’ opposite Dipika in the TV show, is now stepping into the role of ‘King Dashrath’ in the film. Dipika claimed that she believes their TV show will weigh heavily on the new Ramayana film. She said:
“We’re known for what we are. I’m known as Sita. Sometimes, people forget my name, but they remember that I played Sita. So, that’s my identity. I don’t know why anybody would want to lose that. Of course, as an actor, you want to play different roles. Nobody wants to get typecast. I think our Ramayan will weigh very heavily on the ‘Ramayana’ film.”
Dipika Chikhlia thanked Salman Khan for having watched her TV show, Ramayan
During the same interview, Dipika Chikhlia thanked Salman Khan. For those unaware, during the recent trailer launch for Maatrubhumi, the actor was asked about watching Ramayana. To this, he said that he has only watched the one made by Ramanand Sagar so far. Since it has been so many years since Ramayan first aired, Dipika said that she would personally like to thank Salman for having watched their TV series and mentioning it.
