Denise Richards Spoke About Her Abusive Marriage With Aaron Phypers, 'Slapped Me Across My Face'

After her divorce from Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards fell in love with businessman Aaron Phypers in 2017. The duo got married in 2018 and became Hollywood’s most glamorous couples. The couple split in 2025 following a very ugly domestic dispute.
Denise Richards revealed she saw the real side of Aaron Phypers after their marriage
During her conversation with Bunnie Xo, Denise narrated her how Aaron transformed into a completely different person after their marriage. Denise revealed that she was ‘conned’ by Aaron and it was the hardest part of her marriage. She also elaborated how the abuse started out as physical, emotional and then financial.
Denise and Aaron were married for six years and it was Aaron who filed for a divorce on July 7, 2025 and demanded spousal support, legal fees, and numerous personal property items. In the same conversation, Denise shared that she wouldn’t have married Aaron if she knew his real side as she only learned his truth during their marriage and separation.
The reality star shared that Aaron ‘seemed like a really good man that he was very low-key.’ But after their marriage when Aaron, who is Canadian, got his green card, things became different. The abuse wasn’t overnight and was rather a ‘slow burn’.
Denise Richards revealed hitting became a normal thing in her marriage
The abuse began as verbal and slowly turned physical. As she recalled that the first time Aaron ‘slapped me across my face’ and soon Denise knew there is no going back from the abuse now. After the first time, Aaron was so remorseful that Denise felt bad for him and thought he was genuinely sorry for his act. She soon gave Aaron access to her finances as she believed that he wanted to help her but Denise’s daughter, Sami Sheen knew Aaron’s intentions.
Soon the physical abuse continued and hitting became a regular thing for her. He also kept a gun with him, with which he used to threaten Denise. But the final straw came when Aaron slapped Denise while she was in the hospital after undergoing a surgery. Speaking about her abuse, Denise elaborated:
“Our normal became where I would be hit or pushed down on the ground, or some threat of something, and that became almost my normal. And I knew it was wrong, but I was so beaten down, and I didn't know how to leave. But when he did that to me, when I was that vulnerable, I knew, 'He's going to kill me.'"
Denise finally gave Aaron an ultimatum of moving his family out of their house after which he filed for a divorce from her on July 7, 2025 and requested for spousal support. In the court when Denise narrated details of her physical assault, she was granted a permanent restraining order against Aaron. Since then, their ugly divorce battle is on.
