David Owori, 27-Year-Old Uganda Footballer, Beaten To Death By Robbers Near His Home

He took his last breath on August 5, 2026, and the news was confirmed by the player's club, Sports Club Villa.
David Owori was beaten to death by robbers
David Owori was assaulted after he resisted the robbers who were trying to steal his mobile phone and other belongings. As per a witness, there were a group of attackers who hit David with paving stones on July 4, 2026, before they robbed him. After which, they fled, leaving David unconscious on the road in the middle of the night.
David was a part of Uganda's national football team. Apart from this, he was also the captain of SC Villa. After his passing in a horrific incident, his club issued a statement in response to the news, talking about David's death. They announced the untimely passing of David at Case Clinic, where he was receiving treatment after the fatal attack by thugs. The statement can be read as:
"CLUB STATEMENT: It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our captain, David Owori, who had been receiving treatment at Case Clinic following an attack by suspected thugs. Our deepest condolences and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace, Captain."
SC Villa spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, revealed that David was attacked just outside his home in Makindye. They inflicted life-threatening injuries on him, and he passed away despite being rushed to the hospital on time. Asan said:
"The player was ambushed by thugs as he approached his home, leaving him with life-threatening injuries before he was rushed to the medical facility."
The investigation is underway, and local police revealed that detectives were pursuing leads to identify those who are responsible for his death. They are collecting relevant evidence. David's brutal murder has left people of Uganda with chills as they are demanding justice.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations also described David as a leader on and off the pitch. They remembered his contribution to the Uganda football team. They called him a leader and an inspiration for the generation. The statement can be read as:
"The Federation of Uganda Football Associations mourns the untimely passing of Owori David, Captain of SC Villa and Uganda Cranes player. David was not just a footballer. He was both a leader and an inspiration to a generation. As Captain of SC Villa, he led with courage, humility and passion. In the Uganda Cranes jersey, he carried the hopes of a nation. On behalf of the FUFA Executive Committee, Delegates, Members, Secretariat Staff and the entire football fraternity, we extend our deepest condolences to SC Villa, his family, teammates, coaches and all Ugandans on the loss of Owori."
In the statement, they further called David a son, a leader and a star, and that his light on and off the pitch will never be forgotten. They prayed that the family gets strength to bear the loss. The statment was concluded by writing:
"We have lost a son, a leader and a star. His light on and off the pitch will never be forgotten. We pray that the Almighty grants Owori David eternal rest and gives his family and SC Villa the strength to bear this great loss during these trying times. Rest in peace, Captain. Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim."
It is worth mentioning that David was killed just weeks after the death of another Ugandan sports star, rugby international Sydney Gongodyo, who was attacked by a mob in Kampala.
