Since then, the couple had been each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Dakota frequently attended Chris’ concerts, and he visited her during her shoots. Their relationship was under constant scrutiny, mainly because of their huge 12-year age gap. In 2021, Dakota and Martin also moved in together into a new home in Malibu and painted the town red. Multiple reports cited that Chris spent between USD 340,000 and USD 504,000 to buy the stunning emerald ring for his lady love.

Although the couple got secretly engaged, their happiness was short-lived; within months of the engagement, rumors about their breakup surfaced. However, in June 2025, the claims intensified, and a source close to the actress revealed that her relationship with Chris was often hot and cold. Many questions followed about their breakup, but neither Chris nor Dakota revealed what went wrong.
A source spoke to The Sun and said Dakota and Chris’s age gap was a major problem in their relationship. The source also said Dakota wanted to settle down with Chris, but he hadn't given a definite answer about their wedding. Dakota wanted to settle down with him and have kids, but he wasn't keen on the idea. As per the source:
“They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem and she’d expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life.”
Another source revealed that Dakota was still trying to work on the relationship, but Chris became too controlling and dependent on her. The report further stated that the actress was finding their relationship to be ‘suffocating and unbearable’. The reports also said Chris even tried to prevent Dakota from growing her career.
After their breakup, Dakota went on to date musician Tucker Pillsbury, who is professionally known by his stage name, Role Model. However, sources confirmed that the two quietly split. More recently, she has been spotted out with Machine Gun Kelly, and their appearance has sparked new dating rumours.
