It was one of the most devastating phases of his life. But after years when he lost one of his newborn twins, the pain was unexplainable for him.
Cristiano Ronaldo revealed how he dealt with the tragic loss of his newborn son
Cristiano Ronaldo was already a father to Cristiano Jr. when Georgina Rodriguez came into his life. The couple welcomed twin girls, Eva Maria and Mateo via surrogacy, in June 2017. Within weeks, Ronaldo announced that he and Georgina were going to have their first biological child together and welcomed daughter, Alana Martina, in 2017.
It was in 2022, when the couple was over moon after they were pregnant with twins. However, destiny had other plans as Cristiano Ronaldo's fifth child, Bella Esmeralda arrived in April 2022 along with her twin brother, Angel. While Bella survived, their newborn boy, Angel passed away during childbirth. Ronaldo announced the tragic news with an official statement, in which he mentioned, “The birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment”.
While speaking to Morgan TV, Ronaldo called it the most difficult phase of his life since his father’s death. Speaking about his emotions during that time, Ronaldo said:
“We had quite difficult moments because we don’t understand why it happened to us. It was very, very difficult to understand what’s going [on] in that period of our life. Passing through that moment was probably the most difficult moment that I had in my life; me and my family, especially for Gio that was so tough.”

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo spoke about the impact of the tragic death of his son on him and how he broke the news to his other children. Recalling the same, Ronaldo said when Georgina, the kids began to ask ‘where is the other baby?’
After a week, the couple decided to break the news to their children. Then Cristiano told his kids that their baby brother, Angel went to the heaven. In the same interaction, Ronaldo also shared that breaking the truth to their kids was difficult for them and the family often speaks about Angel in their house, making him a part of their lives.
Speaking to Morgan stated that he has kept his son’s ashes at home since he didn’t want to throw them away. Elaborating on the same, he said:
“My son’s ashes are with me, like my Daddy, they are here in the house. It is something that I want to hold for the rest of my life and not throw to the ocean or to the sea. I keep them with me. They are next to my dad. I have a small church downstairs, a chapel, and I keep my daddy and my son there.”
