As the film made it to the headlines, an unfavourable incident faced by the lead actress, Anna Ben, resurfaced. She once opened up about facing sexual harassment in a public place and shared her rage regarding the same.
Anna Ben shared her traumatic sexual harassment experience
Malayalam actress Anna Ben, who is currently in focus for her movie Con City's release, opened up about a traumatic experience a few years back. She shared that she was sexually harassed by a man at a shopping mall in Kochi, Kerala. She shared her experience a year ago, making her Malayalam acting debut in the critically and commercially acclaimed film Kumbalangi Nights (2019). Anna had just started to enjoy her rising career graph when the unwanted incident took place.
Opening up about the disturbing experience on Instagram, Anna expressed her anger over the lack of safe public spaces for women. The incident occurred inside an amply spaced aisle at the Lulu Hypermarket in Kochi while she was visiting with her family. The actress recalled two men walking past her, and one of them intentionally grazing his hands against her back.
At first, Anna Ben wanted to give the man the benefit of the doubt, believing the incident was unintentional, but his unapologetic attitude made her think otherwise. She revealed being caught off guard and not being able to react immediately. After taking a few minutes to process what happened, Anna decided to confront them. She tracked them and, to confirm her instinct, she walked toward them and confronted them with a look.
The men ignored Anna and walked away without any visible guilt. She felt immense rage at their attitude and took to her social media to talk about the same. The Con City actress expressed deep frustration that men commit such actions so casually, knowing that they can usually walk away without consequences. She noted that such incidents force women to constantly keep their guard up, worry about their outfits, be paranoid about their appearance and cover themselves up in public spaces.
Anna Ben's post had the desired consequence. After she publicly talked about the incident, the Kerala Police registered a suo motu case, retrieved CCTV footage from the mall, and subsequently arrested the two accused individuals. The experience didn't break Anna; rather, it made her stronger and more resolute to fight against harassment and cyberbullying. She became actively involved in advocacy, joining safety initiatives like the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) campaign #RefuseTheAbuse.

Con City is a crime comedy film starring Anna Ben and Arjun Das in the lead roles. Directed by debutant Harish Durairaj, the story revolves around a struggling, ordinary middle-class household operating a small hotel in Mulki, near Mangalore. However, under the veil of the legal business, they are actually a gang of skilled scam artists. The main hook of the movie comes when a lightning strike hits their house's receipt printer, causing it to glitch and start printing real Rs 500 banknotes.
As for Anna Ben's character, she plays 'Mithra', the partner-in-crime and lover of 'Saravanan' (played by Arjun Das). Her character is portrayed as a poor woman who struggles to pay even the rent for her house, which motivates her to enter the world of crime. Now, there are two possible outcomes: she might succeed in her quest and lead a life of comfort or get caught by the police and spend the rest of her life in jail.
