Destination weddings nowadays are more about the glitz and glamour, the property chosen for the event, the designers and other celebrity professionals roped in to make the wedding a spectacular one. But our featured couple for this story, Apurva and Kanav chose to be completely different and innovative.
Not only did they have a big, fat and grand destination wedding in the dream-like city of Udaipur, but what made their wedding class apart was the creativity and personal touches the two put into every single detail to make the most special day of their lives a memorable one.
So, fasten your seat belts because we are about to take you through the innovatively planned, creatively conceptualised and implemented, and fun-filled wedding journey of two individuals who are poles apart but their love for each other and a positive zest for life makes their union a special one. Take a look at their wedding video:
As fate would have it, Apurva who always wanted a filmy fairytale-style love story and wedding got hers when she met the love of her life Kanav at a friend’s wedding.
‘’We both met at a wedding. It was a typical Hum Aapke Hain Kaun sequence. Giggles, smiles and laughs... I always wanted my story to be very filmy and thankfully, my story to me felt no less than a Bollywood masala film :)’’
The best part about their wedding was that both of them being successful designers, created a wedding environment which spelled out their personal tastes and choices, making the event a very personalised and unique one.
In the words of the Apurva and Kanav:
‘’We both are designers and in most cases, too finicky and picky about everything. Hence, both of us were on our toes for months - making all our outfits, making our own shoes, designing the invites, making wedding favours, ideating themes for all functions, planning our function entries, ideating the decor ,dealing with the vendors etc.’’
The other key feature was that they created two imaginary cartoon characters named Coy and Quirky. The characters symbolised each of their personalities, Coy (the groom) who is stylish, classy, modest and grounded while Quirky (the bride) who is extremely fun loving, bright and bubbly. They had these two characters everywhere in the wedding starting from the save-the-date invites and also on the wedding favours etc.
Coming to the awesomely planned functions, all took place at the Radisson Blu Palace and Spa, Udaipur, with the main decorator being Event Entourage. All the functions were divided into Coy style and Quirky style respectively.
The first of the four events was the ‘Rajasthan Ro Mela’. It was a colourful function that was totally Quirky style. It was a mehendi party which was set up in a Rajasthani mela style with lots of bright colours in the décor, authentic Rajhasthani food, waiters dressed as street vendors, games and more.
The bride wore a multi-coloured semi-ethnic outfit with a black jacket and mirror work and her groom complemented her well in a Rajhasthani attire. Preeti Kapoor was the mehendi artist for that day.
The second event was a ‘Coy-Style Dance Party’ which was classy and elegant to the core. It was an English-style dance party where everybody was dressed in elegant gowns and tuxedos. The charm of the event was the dance competition. Apurva wore a princess like white flared gown while Kanav looked no less than a prince, dressed classily in black.
Next it was time for the most fun-filled function of the wedding celebration, the ‘Splish Splash Pool Party’ which obviously was Quirky style. Dressed in all colours bright, the guests had a gala time dancing, drinking and getting clicked in the pool. It had a carnival theme, lots of games and everything about the event spelled bright, sunny and fun!
And finally, it was time for the grand wedding- ‘The Wedding WOW’. The most striking part of the wedding was the bride herself. Not only did she arrive with a swag, dancing away with her friends but she also looked like a royal princess dressed in beautiful mirror work lehenga that she designed herself.
Everything from the outfit, the jewellery, the makeup (by pink floss and Raoul) and especially the way she carried herself was just perfect. Kanav too looked super-elegant wearing a green pagdi, a light-toned sherwani with intricately done embroidery and a green neckpiece. Kutle Khan of Coke Studio fame performed live at the wedding.
And because such a grand and successful event has a lot of hands backstage to make it look perfect on stage, the couple couldn’t thank their vendors enough.
‘’Our vendors played a great role in coping up with our maddening arrangements and making our wedding a hit with their amazing cooperation, ideas and incorporation.’’
The entire wedding was captured by HappyFrames Photography. And how amazing was their work you ask? Well, hear it from the bride herself as this is what she had to say:
‘’Happy frames photography being my favorite vendor took our photo shoot and Pre wedding video to a whole new outstanding level. They worked more like friends than professionals with us. I owe big time to them.’’
Lastly, what made their wedding so special was the fact that unlike others, both Apurva and Kanav designed the entire event in a way that they too were able to be a part of their wedding and enjoy it the way all the others present did.
Also, apart from one or two outfits, all the outfits that the two wore for the various functions were designed by the designer couple themselves. In all, this wedding was a mix of traditions, fun, creativity, and lots and lots of memorable moments that made it an event to remember for all those who were a part of it.
