Yeison Meneze Who Died In Columbia Plane Crash Met Wife Sonia At Concert, Accepted Step Daughter

Colombian regional music singer, Yeison Jimenez, along with five other people, reportedly passed away in a chartered plane crash in the Paipa area of Boyaca, Colombia. The incident took place on January 10, 2026, and six people on board lost their lives. Authorities have not yet released any official statement, but with Jimenez, six musicians are feared to be dead. The singer's identity has not yet been confirmed, but disturbing visuals from the crash scene have emerged on social media.

Yeison Jimenez is the hero of his own story. He had his own set of struggles, and for the past 10 years, it was hard work that allowed him to build his career and achieve his goals. Earlier, in an interview with Vea Magazine, Yeison, who was born in Manzanares, Caldas, revealed that he felt proud to have a happy family with his wife, Sonia Restrepo. Yeison Jimenez and Sonia Restrepo are parents to three children.

According to a report by Elespectador.com, Yeison and his wife, Sonia, first met at a concert. Back then, the late singer was merely 22 years old. Sonia was eighteen when she entered the venue with her friends. Jimez was performing at the concert, and Sonia recalled how he had started his career. However, when their eyes met, they fell for each other. Sonia revealed:

"We met in my hometown, Pensilvania, Caldas. It was a Wednesday, and that day I was singing for a very dear friend. He was just starting out; he had his song 'Qué día es hoy' (What Day Is Today). I was walking in with some friends, and we saw each other; it was love at first sigh."

Yeison Jimenez further revealed in the interview that he was not a big artist. He had just started his music career, and it had been only two years since Yeison was into the same. He had seen her sitting with friends, and so he started to tease her. When it was over, Yeison sat on a horse, and Sonia asked him if he could give her a ride. Yeison blatantly refused and shared:

"I told her no because I didn't know the horse, it wasn't mine, and she got mad (laughs). I was a 22-year-old kid who had borrowed a horse. She went riding with some other friends, and I was left. The next day, I invited her to lunch in a nearby town, and that's where we started talking."

Yeison Jimenez and Sonia Restrepo were in a long-distance relationship. During that time, the singer often travelled to Pennsylvania and would send someone to pick up Sonia if he was performing nearby. Both of them then committed to one another as Yeison had to travel a lot. He could not get her to Bogota, as back in his time, social media was not so prevalent. He had to do door-to-door campaigns, and went to TV channels and radio stations. However, Yeison made three promises to Sonia and the late singer once recollected about them and shared:

"I made her three promises. I told her, 'I want you to be my wife, the mother of my children, and I'm going to make sure you have a professional degree,' and I kept all three."

Sonia recalled that when she told Yeison she had a daughter from an earlier relationship, he did not believe her at first. Sonia then shared that she fought for their relationship because he was the best father to his daughter. Sonia remembers Yeison as an open, generous and loving person. For her daughter, Yeison was a role model who gave her love, time, importance, and, moreover, affection. Yeison had a great relationship with Sonia's daughter from her earlier marriage. Both loved one another and respected each other.

According to a report by Infobae, Sonia is a public accountant and has also specialised in law. Yeison and Sonia's first biological daughter is Thailana. The couple was blessed with their little angel on March 2, 2018.  Yeison had taken to social media to speak about the expansion in his family. In June 2024, Yeison and Sonia were blessed with Santiago Jimenez Restrpo. The couple was on cloud nine when they were blessed with a baby boy.
