Christa Pike shares she is still in pain a month after her botched execution
50-year-old Christa Pike was sentenced to death for murdering 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer in 1995. According to reports, Pike survived two doses of lethal injection. However, the execution left her critically ill, according to her attorneys. Now, in her first public statement after the failed execution, Pike shared that she is still in pain a month after her botched execution. She mentioned that when she woke up alone in the hospital, she felt confused and was in pain. TMZ quoted her saying:
"Several days later I woke up alone in a hospital confused and in pain. There hasn't been a moment since that night when I haven't been in pain. My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak."

Pike admitted that she was mentally prepared to die on September 30, 2026. She had accepted the death sentence because she believed that was what was going to happen. However, after surviving, she suddenly had to face the reality of continuing to live. Christa shared that she never expected she would live again and thus is now searching for meaning in what happened.
Pike was discharged from the hospital on October 10, 2026. After being discharged, she was sent back to prison. She has reportedly been kept alone in the prison’s medical ward. Pike opened up about her experience and said it reminded her of the 28 years she spent in solitary confinement. Pike also spoke about Colleen Slemmer’s family. She acknowledged that her botched execution has created another difficult situation for everyone involved, including the victim's loved ones.
Despite everything she experienced, Christa Pike said that she is slowly getting stronger. She thanked the first responders, medical staff and supporters who have helped her through the ordeal. She said:
"I don't know why I survived that night. I don't know what comes next. Some days, finding hope is harder than others."
According to 911 dispatch recordings reviewed by the Associated Press, Pike couldn't get help for over half an hour, and prison officials didn't even confirm to first responders that the call was legitimate. The outlet reported that the first call came in at 8:40 p.m., but 23 minutes later an unidentified person on the line said it was a 'false call.' At 9:11 p.m., 31 minutes after the original call, prison officials confirmed the call was legitimate.
More about the 1995 murder case
As per reports, Pike lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer to a park by telling her they wanted to visit a music store and collect marijuana they had hidden there. At the time, Pike was 18. Christa and her then-boyfriend, Tadaryl, killed Colleen with a box cutter on January 12, 1995. After Slemmer was dead, a pentagram was carved into her chest, and a piece of her skull was removed.

Slemmer was reportedly tortured for almost an hour before she was killed. Christa, along with Tadaryl, beat, cut, and stopped Slemmer from screaming. When Slemmer tried to escape, they held her down. In an old interview, Pike admitted that the night she killed Slemmer, she had lost her mind.
