Chris Rea's LAST POST, Just Hours Before His Death, Was A Hint Of His Passing, 'Driving Home...'

Famous British singer and songwriter, Chris Rea, passed away at the age of 74. It is reported that he was suffering from a short illness and was in hospital at the time of his passing away. Many are mourning the musician's death. He is survived by his wife and two children. As tributes are pouring in for the Grammy-nominee, his last post has been going viral, which seems he had an intuition of his passing away.

Chris Rea's last post before his death at the age of 74 surfaces 

Chris Rea took his last break on December 22, 2025. However, just a few hours before his sudden demise, Chris took to his Instagram handle and posted a picture of his car's side mirror. It also had a road sign with the lyrics to his famous song, 'Driving Home for Christmas with a thousand memories.' In the caption, he hoped that the journey would be a smooth one if it is going to snow on Christmas. He wrote:

"Top to toe in tailbacks. If it’s a white Christmas, let’s hope the journey’s a smooth one."

Chris Rea's family announces his demise

After the news of Chris Rea's demise surfaced on the internet, family shared an official announcement on his Instagram handle. Sharing a photo of the legendary singer, the family penned a note. They announced the passing of Chris, who died peacefully, surrounded by his family. The family concluded the note by mentioning how Chris' legacy would live on through his songs. It can be read as:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Chris, who died peacefully earlier today following a short illness. Chris’s music has created the soundtrack to many lives, and his legacy will live on through the songs he leaves behind."

Chris Rea's early life and career

Chris Rea was born in Middlesbrough in England. He had an Italian father and an Irish mother. His full name was Christopher Anton Rea. He was one of the seven children, and he was famously known to the locals for his father, Camillo Rea's, business. He was an ice cream factory and cafe owner. Chris worked in the cafes as a teenager. He loved driving and took a driving test in one of his dad's ice cream vans. In his early 20s, he was still working with his father when he bought his first guitar, a 1961 Hofner V3. 

While his job was to develop his father's ice cream cafe into a global sensation, he was busy in the stockroom playing slide guitar. His first album was Whatever Happened to Benny Santini? It was released in 1978. However, he gained a lot of fame with his lead single, Fool (If You Think It's Over), which reached number one on the contemporary singles Billboard chart, and he earned best new artist recognition back in those days.

Chris Rea's musical career spanned many decades. He is best known for The Road To Hell, which went on to become a massive hit. His festive favourite, Driving Home For Christmas, was another one that had a huge fan base and still plays during the festive time. He sold more than 40 million records worldwide. His Christmas song was even used in a Marks and Spencer's TV commercial.
