After Rihanna, Shooting Erupts Outside Chris Brown's Home, Sparking Concern, Here's What Happened

A sudden firing incident on Friday afternoon in the Tarzana neighbourhood sparked safety concerns for singer-rapper Chris brown and his family. With the gunfire reports triggering immediate police response, the news quickly spread online, and authorities later confirmed that the suspect had been arrested. Fans grew concerned about the singer's safety, wondering if the shooting had anything to do with him, especially after a shooter targeted Rihanna's residence in March this year. Brown himself has now addressed the incident.

What happened outside Chris Brown's home?

On Friday, May 1, 2026, chaos broke out in L.A.'s Tarzana area after police received reports of gunfire near Chris Brown's residence around 4:00 p.m. The caller was a female who reported about the shooting, describing the suspect as a Black male who allegedly shot at her vehicle. In 911 audio obtained by TMZ, the dispatchers were directed to Brown's address.

According to authorities, the incident happened on the street outside the singer's residence, and there were no shots fired inside the property. When the officers arrived, it was reported that it was a dispute that quickly escalated into a heated confrontation, leading the suspect to fire at the woman's vehicle.

Who is the arrested suspect, and what was his motive?

The Los Angeles Police Department identified the suspected shooter as Markeith Cungious, a 35-year-old man living in the neighbourhood. He was taken into custody at the scene and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. Regarding the weapon used in the attack, police later confirmed that it was not a traditional firearm but rather a CO2-style handgun, the kind that's used for training, manual pumping, or recreational purposes and is usually harmless.

After his arrest, the suspect claimed the altercation began when he asked the woman to leave the area. He alleged the situation escalated after she drove her car over his foot, prompting him to fire at the vehicle. Cungious is currently being held on a USD 50,000 bail.

Chris Brown speaks out about the incident

While the gunfire report had stirred buzz online, it is safe to say that Brown and his family are safe and well. However, with the growing speculation surrounding his name, the singer quickly distanced himself from the situation, making it clear he had no involvement and wasn’t even aware of what had happened. Taking to his Instagram Stories, the Under the Influence singer wrote:

"AT THIS POINT THIS PATTERN IS OLD. I’m looking at the news like the rest of yall wondering when and where the hell this happened. I been in my crib this whole time. Ain’t heard a gunshot, police car, or anything . DONT ATTACH MY NAME TO NONE OF THE BULLSH*T. I got shit to do!"

Officials have confirmed that Brown was not involved in the altercation and may not have even been home at the time. There is also no indication that the individuals involved had any connection to him.

Chris Brown recently became a father for the fourth time

The buzz came just days after Brown's family welcomed a new member. On April 27, 2026, Brown and his girlfriend, Jada Wallace, announced the birth of their child (his first child with Jada), a son, whose name hasn't been revealed yet. This is Brown's fourth child, and he has previously fathered three children with three different women.

The second, a son named Aeko Catori Brown, was born in 2019 when Brown was dating Ammika Harris. Both Brown and the police department have confirmed that he has no connection with the firing incident outside his home.
