Who is Hanuman Ansh actor Chandan Anand?
Chandan Anand is no stranger to the film industry; in fact, he has been part of the entertainment world for over two decades. The actor made his debut with Kaafila, alongside Sunny Deol, in 2004 and has since played several different characters. However, while his film debut came in the 2000s, he had been part of the entertainment world long before.
Drawn to theatre, he started working with two of New Delhi's most prolific theatre companies, Asmita and Act One. He worked with directors Arvind Gaur and N.K. Sharma, who helped hone his skills as he essayed many prominent roles in well-known Hindi plays like Court Martial, Tara, Final Solutions, Romeo Juliet, and Warren Hastings ka Saand. He moved to Mumbai in 2004 and began his acting journey. Over the years, he appeared in several films and over 200 TV commercials.
How did Hanuman Ansh change things for Chandan Anand?
For over 15 years, actor Chandan Anand has inhabited worlds of violence, crime, gangsters and conflict across projects such as Rangbaaz, Fighter, Class, Parched, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Homebound. However, his latest film, Hanuman Ansh, took him somewhere completely different. For those who don't know, Chandan plays 'Ram Nandan Bhosle', an HSRA (Hindustan Socialist Republican Association) revolutionary in the film.
According to reports, 'Ram's' encounter with 'Neem Karoli Baba' became a turning point in his life. The same happened with Chandan Anand, who has claimed the film changed the way he saw life. He spoke with India Today and said working on the film was like having a satvik meal. He was quoted as saying:
"I feel for the last 10-15 years we have all been seeing a kind of cinema and I have been performing in violent stories, murder mysteries, gangster films, but now performing in a spiritual film is like having a satvik meal. A satvik meal forms great food for the mind and soul, and Hanuman Ansh does that aptly."
For Anand, however, the biggest change was not simply moving from crime stories to spirituality. It was the way his character began reflecting his own personality. 'Ram Nandan Bhosle' is initially an atheist and a revolutionary associated with the HSRA, but his encounter with Baba gradually changes his outlook. Anand said that the rigidity and idealism he brought to Bhosle were not entirely constructed for the screen.
"I can see and feel everything vividly now as I have lived the character and my journey in reel and real life. The character I played as a revolutionary is almost the same as me in real life."
Chandan Anand called the opportunity luck and blessings, recalling that he had visited Neem Karoli Baba's ashram just six months before shooting began. He revealed that during his visit, he had prayed for an opportunity to work in a film involving Lord Hanuman, and then received a call for Hanuman Ansh within six months. He was quoted as saying:
"Six months before shooting the film, I paid a visit to the temple to meet Baba and prayed for a film with Hanuman Ji in it, and in six months I got a call for this film. The sheer blessings of Hanuman Ji."
